Yeah. Half the time they're going to sound ridiculous, because half the time they'll be disagreeing with you. As opposed to the other stations saying what you like to hear. Its part of the price of being fair- no one is going to agree with you 100% of the time.

I think the fact that you're defending fox news is evidence enough to my argument.

I watched almost the entire debate, but the one point that I remember ruffling my feathers the most was when John McCain ranted about how Obama's tax plan hurt people who made under $42,000 a year. Obama was in the background going "Uhm, that's not true..." and I was rolling around on the couch in rage BECAUSE:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...8060900950.html
Oh my GOD, while I am posting this there actually was a commercial on television that said, and I quote:
"Obama and his liberal allies promise higher taxes on your income."
Edit: To be fair, if you make over $111,645, this is true. I however am an incredibly poor college student and when you consider that well over half of America makes under $60,000 a year, this seems like the most good for the most amount of people.

Yes, its only the most watched news station and all. Just because the liberal media is desperately trying to discredit them in a failed attempt to recover their viewers, and liberals like Stewart and Colbert have such a good time ripping in to them doesn't make them the right-wing crazies that you've been conditioned to think they are.

Does no one ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe, the whole party system(or at least what it's become in modern days) is about as un-American as it gets?
I love when I listen to Republican AM and they harp on and on about Obama's 'cling to their guns and religion..' quote. Y'know, if a candidate had the balls to stand up and talk honestly about how screwed up America's become in the last few decades, I might actually have someone worth voting for.
Raiha: You realize that family incomes under 25k don't have to pay income taxes anymore?

QUOTE(Raiha @ Sep 27 2008, 03:59 PM) 563331
What is the alternative?
What they hand to us as 'alternatives' is..more of the party system! Tiny, inconsequential parties that no one believes would ever win anyway. More of the same, basically.
Acrune earlier mentioned electoral colleges...yeah, think about it. Here we have a system that encourages those most likely to have the ability and desire to lead our country have to fit into one of two molds to even have a chance, changing their 'beliefs' to fit to one of two parties who have consistently run this country into the ground for a long, long time, albeit each in their own way. Every four years American goes INSANE and half its people hate the other half and vice versa, all spewing venomous and un-considered views at each other until everyone's exhausted, just to elect ye same olde once again. Yet at the end of the day, when all votes are cast, our representatives look at the results, say 'Oh, that's nice', and then they cast their votes, which are the only ones that actually matter. The public vote is, essentially, just the final poll for the opinion of the average American.
It's ridiculous, start to finish. What's the alternative? No idea, because whatever worthy system might be thought of to replace what we have will likely never be approved by the people in power. Why would they?
Ashteru2008-09-27 16:17:47
I always found it weird that you guys only had 2 parties to vote for. This election, Austria has 5 or 6. *g*
Moiraine2008-09-27 16:19:13
We have many, many parties to vote for. You just don't hear about them because they're completely ineffectual.

We have tons, but electoral college makes it so the two are the only ones that could possibly take it.
I saw a Simpsons episode once where aliens replaced both presidential candidates, and they were found out. It was then suggested (by Homer maybe?) that they vote for a third party candidate, to which the aliens responded "Then you'll be throwing your vote away".
Doh.

This may be the first election where I simply do not show up to vote. I don't believe either candidate will do great things for this country, both for different reasons. In truth, statistics are skewed and media biased. Facts are not usually too factual and opinions are weighed heavily all around.
When it comes right down to it, how many candidates actually do all (or any of) the things they promised during their campaign once in office? Politicians are simply not to be trusted, and the higher up the chain they are, the more I distrust them. It's unfortunate, but it's just the way I see it now.
As for the economy, boons and dry spells can be blamed on the current President by many. However, it can also be shown that things don't move that fast and these things are actually carried over from previous leaders' legislation. Besides, Congress has more control over these issues than the President does, anyway.

Name one thing they said about McCain that was the equal of calling Michelle Obama's "Baby Momma" or calling a pound a "Terrorist Fist-jab" when the Obamas did it.

Bleh I didn't see the debate would have been interesting to watch. Not sure on who to vote for yet might not vote again like the last time.

Want me to find the papers from the founding of the country that says that a party system would be one of the worst things to happen?

Sure, from the stats you or Raiha showed me says that there wouldn't be much tax difference for me between the two candidates, but Obama strikes me as a dirty, dirty liar, so if that is indeed his tax plan, it wouldn't surprise me to see it go higher shortly after he gets elected. Its kind of like what cable companies do to get you to switch to their service. Give you a low introductory rate, then stick it to you when its too late to change.

And the liberal media thing is absolutely true. Everywhere you look (except fox) is positively dripping with liberal bias.
Just because its fun, lets look at this gallup poll, showing the breakdown of who watches which of the 3 biggest media outlets.
Its no wonder that Fox is the most watched news station. Despite what the liberal media wants you to think, they're actually fair and appeal to people of both parties

Are we playing "Let's project personal bias on statistics?" Ok, my turn!
From that poll, I see that Republicans don't watch the news. In fact, there are as many Democrats willing to listen to both sides of the issue as there are Republicans willing to inform themselves that there is an issue at all. Therefore, Republicans should not be allowed to vote, because democracy depends on informed voters.

If you define "informed" as "brainwashed by the liberal BS that is constantly being spewed", then I guess I can understand why you think Republicans might not be as "informed" as you'd like.

No luck there, but my comp doubles as my TV and I have it recorded, so if you know of a site that hosts large files for download, I can post it. Or send it to you through GMail. Whichever.
