Pretty sure it is, yes.
if you've got a skilled empath, you can redirect the power from the orb to the chair or the grid, though, which IS useful for aetherbashing.

Distribution is one of the first skills you get when you specialize.

Plus, if the module damage is to a shield instead of something you care about, that's a way it helps. Sort of.

Dunno if this is a "simple" question, but I was wondering...
How does reforging work? Can you reforge a kata weapon with a mix of metal and non-metal coms? Would you have to add new non-metal comms on each subsequent forging? Or is this an impossibility?

At current kata weapon forging, you would have to have a set of all the non-metal comms required every time you reforged it.
For instance, let's say you have a nekai that requires 15 silver, 10 redtint. It would cost you that when you forge it the first time.
When you smelt it to reforge, you get the 15 silver back, but the redtint is burned up and must be resupplied again.

Does a forger smelt and reforge everytime to bump up a stat? How many times does one reforge until they get a perfect speed nekai?

Try to get 24 by rolling four dice. How many rolls will it take?

I'm with Daganev- I know that it also makes a really effective way to create character histories (After hiking in the lands east of Avechna's Teeth, having tired as a farmhand, Eventru found himself at the portal of fate, etc...)
Super-late response, but this doesn't quite work, as the Basin of Life is surrounded by ocean.
EDIT: Actually, there's only definitely ocean to the north and west as far as I can glean... hhhmmm.
Unknown2009-07-03 04:00:04
Judging from the graphical map it looks like East and south westish have ocean, but you can't tell about the rest.

Hrm... well, according to http://www.anwu.org/games/dice_calc.html I would have 0.00077 or 0.077 chance of rolling 24 on 4 dice. In other words, it might take about 1000 forgings... statistically speaking.
So, to get the nekai I designed (before I learned about the non-metal com hitch):
nightmarish nekai of morbid oddity
5 silver, 10 platinum, 15 iron, 5 leather, 5 redtint, 10 eyeball
This nightmarish nekai is a macabre perversion of the traditional three-bladed design. A supple black leather glove, made from from the slink of unborn sheep, fits snugly over the hand and forearm. The article is securely fastened by a series of crisscrossing straps with silver buckles. Plates of red lacquered iron fastened to the straps, and are cast to mimic the appearance of flayed muscle writhing in agony. A dozen petrified eyes, hard as glass, peep out from amongst the metallic bundles of seemingly fibrous tissue. Each fingertip extends into a serrated platinum claw, etched with an arabesque motif depicting unspeakable horrors.
It would take 5000 leather (at 38 a pop) would cost 190,000. Plus about 10,000 eyeballs, and whatever redtint costs these days... and just for one nekai!
Heh. Looks like this nekai set will continue to be a mantle piece for now, and I'll have to forge another set! OR... Anyone know if I can appeal to the Charities to have the coms changed?

That wasn't an exact figure

The idea was that it was chance, I have no control over how long it will take to forge your nekai. My 110 speed shofa took almost two weeks, I think. I finished Kial's 110 speed nekai in about day, both nekai coming within ten minutes.

Yep. As a matter of fact, all of my forging-needs have taken relatively short periods of time. I got a pair of 180 speed rapiers back when I was a warrior in about 3 days.

What did you need 180s for? That's slow as dirt.

Unfortunately, forging isn't like dice and for this to work, it assumes that getting a value of 1 through 6 holds equal probability... i.e. it's not that simple. The easiest way would be to get Roark, Fain, Eventru to give us the formula then we can apply the proper mathematics to it.
On a related note, does anyone know the max-stats for a set of great robes, splendour robes? Also, the probability of one act of ENCHANT ROBES giving plus one blunt, plus one cutting or absolutely nothing? I'd actually do this myself, but I'm guessing someone out there already knows.
Esano2009-07-03 08:27:26
Not sure on the exact numbers of maxs/chances, but it can give either 0, 1 to blunt, 1 to cutting, 2 to blunt, or 2 to cutting.

I think that'd be 6!4! or 6*5*4*3*2*1*4*3*2*1
