There are 3 layers. Underwear, outerwear, and the in-between. Outerwear is coats and cloaks, underwear is corsets, boxers and the like, and the between is most armors and normal clothing. realistically, Robes would be outerwear, but they'd interfere with coats and cloaks then. So, they made them middle layer so you couldn't wear robes and plate armor
edit: at least I think this is right.

There are at least 4. You can wear a Coat over a Cloak.

Layers have different parts. Coats and cloaks are on the same layer, but are coded to cover different parts. Sort of like a shirt and pants are the same layer, but cover different parts.

Is the rune of shielding limited to jewelry? I've seen some athames used for shieldstun so I'm assuming they're not. What are the things that can have a rune of shielding attached to them?

Just to make sure - you can proof splendours with all 4 proofings, right? If you get a cloak and a coat and proof those, do the protections stack?

Yes.
No - splendours are better proof per proof alone, though.

You cannot put the rune of shielding on jewelry - only druid/mage/bard weapons.

Just for those who are curious, you also can't Rune of Shielding your dingbat dolls for epic ShieldStuns.

If you wear a proofed cloak or coat, on top of the splendours though, will the defense be taken from the robes or the cloak/coat?

Can more than one bookshelf be placed in a guildhall?

Yeah, when I got the email I died a bit on the inside. I wanted to hit people over the head with Luna.

Yes, we filled up our first one a long time ago and set up a second. Has to be in a different room though.

The latter statement could be misleading. Robes are better per proof than cloaks and coats. Thus, being able to have all four proofs on your robes is better than only having two on your robes and one each on cloak/coat. Splendours provide no increase over greatrobes except in slots.
Also, raising your hood increases your proof DMP! I believe it's around 36 dmp with a hood up.

Splendour robes can take all four proofings, and provide twice as much protection with each proofing, but they do not stack with proofed coats or cloaks.
Is the Wiki wrong? Or am I misreading it as contradicting you?
Esano2010-04-27 01:14:43
Either the Wiki is wrong or splendours have been ninjachanged since our testing.

QUOTE (Lore Wiki)
A splendor outfit can be enchanted and cured like great robes, though its quality makes enchantments upon it greater than those of great robes.
I suppose this line implies what you are saying by NOT mentioning that the curing is greater than that of great robes.
Eldanien2010-04-27 01:29:49
May need to be tested, but I was under the impression that splendors proofs weren't any better than greatrobes proofs beyond the ability to have all four types.
