It's a good question, I don't think the game has addressed it too much but not all technology is viewed the same way most likely. Aetherships (if you'd call them technology) are surely fine since they don't take up space, whereas Magnagora's gas lamps are probably not fine.
The alogtherine (aethership) is technically a living entity too, which hatches from an egg. It's really more similar to... beastmastery, than modern technology.

No one's complained about me making watches and music boxes. Serenwilde even has an architect with tools; ergo, Serenwilde is okay with the idea that we sometimes shape the natural world, by building things in and from it. I personally imagine it like Tolkien's elves, who have architecture and forging and crafts, but always make them harmoniously with the natural world, contrasting with the humans of Rohan or Gondor who simply displace the natural world with their architecture and crafting, and with the orcs and other baddies, who actively destroy and subjugate it. As opposed to being like primitivists who would argue against building anything more permanent than a tent, or who think that farms are evil since they're anti-"wild". So I think Serenwilde is okay with technology in itself, as long as it's aligned with nature. (Then again, there's not a single thing you can say Serenwilde believes without finding a counterexample amongst its well-established players, so take that with a grain of salt.)

What's the forestals (Seren/Glom)' RP view of advanced technology? Is it a blight like they consider cities to be?
Like the others, I don't think that there is a set RP towards technology itself. At least for Iktomi in Glomdoring, it would be all about how that technology is used. If it's used to further the goals and condition of Glomdoring, well that's all that matters. If it's used to harm the Glomdoring however, then it is bad. We Glomdorians (that just sounds funny) are forestals, but really, we couldn't care less about any forest other than our own.

Probably not so much as a blight, but it probably depends largely on what you define as technology. I remember Nott (while in Glom) being very tinkering-flavoured (gnomish technology), and I've made my character have some affinity towards gnomes and crafting.

The communes can raise the Soulforge to terrorize the cities. I don't know what the Soulforge is but it sounds really advanced and futuristic so it must be ok to use technology for the sake of bringing death and destruction to your enemies.

Does anyone use one room aetherships for travel? Glomdoring has quite a few but I woudn't feel safe going any farther than the Glomdoring aetherplex to Night's bubble. They're quite speedy but that fragile.
Razenth2010-04-28 22:22:28
With forcefield they can be easily used to travel. Heck, with forcefield you can travel in just about anything.

The Soulforge is the tool of a Soulless God. The 'terrorizing cities' is it being used to reach up to Astral and usurp Kethuru's power.
Sadly, it can give power to communes but can never harm them, which is always aggravating. It can give power to the city that has it tuned towards it while attacking all others, but the tuning can be switched fairly easily.

Forcefield requires a minimum of two rooms (chair + orb), but yes, this is the general idea.
Razenth2010-04-28 22:29:38
Alas, Esano is correct. Curse my misinformation.
Ask Glom to throw a few orbs on those ships!

Has anyone seen "guest accounts" on the forums or people's whose post count don't quite add up? What's with that?

Guest accounts are people who didn't log in.
Post counts don't count posts in the "Real World" section.
Divine inflate their post counts for no real reason.

It has something to do with how the admin group works or something. It's just set that way, and there is a reason - I just don't know what it is.

From what I've observed, it doesn't actually seem to be a group policy (or at least, not fully): New Divine don't always have a high post count when in the group, and both Shikari & Ayridion show up on the "posters" page (though nobody else in the Admin group does); though admittedly that is a different feature, it does lend some credence to the idea that accounts have individual settings.
Unless it's a group policy that can be overridden, I suppose. Quite possible.
Edit: Though one is in the Lusternians group, and one is Validating, so that would be the difference.
The question is, why do they have such high post counts when not in the Admin group? Hmm!
Shiri2010-04-29 03:33:07
What it is is that someone thought it looked weird that Daganev and I had like 50 times as many posts as Estarra in the first few weeks of the forums and Estarra agreed.

Heh. A reason but I suppose the quality of it could be debated.

That said, there doesn't really need to be tracking of Divine activity via easy post count, so whatever. It's not a huge issue!
Felicia2010-04-29 04:15:27
Personally, I don't like publicized join dates and post counts on any forum. What a person writes should stand on its own merit, or lack thereof. In fact, allowing someone's join date and post count to color your opinion can (and often does) lead to numerous logical fallacies, such as ad hominems and ad verecundium.
That being said, most people seem to like them, so they're here to stay nearly Internet-wide (with at least one very notable exception).
