If, when you use "Prints" in hunting, you're told "at least three native dracnari", and there are more creatures around there both in the number of dracnari and creatures that aren't dracnari, that's a bug right? What should be done about it?

Is there a list somewhere of how the strength of npc's compares to your own? I am talking about lines like "NPC looks to be crushingly strong."

HELP CONSIDER lists them
The messages you may see when you type the consider command for a denizen, in
order from strongest to weakest, are:
almost glows with nearly god-like power
does not even register your presence as a threat
exudes an aura of overwhelming power
has an air of extreme strength
looks to be crushingly strong
appears to be extraordinarily strong
is quite powerful
is not one to be trifled with
seems strong and confident
exudes a quiet confidence
seems to be unafraid
appears to lack strength
does not look particularly dangerous
is a humble-looking creature
looks relatively helpless
looks weak and feeble

It's also worth noting that it's an absolute, not a relative, scale.

Prints only tells you something is in the area if it is in a natural environment-- forest, valley, plains, water, desert, moutain, air etc. It doesn't count anything in buildings or in urban environments.

Hrm, does that 'almost' annoy anyone else or is it just me?

It's not just you! I've always wondered how they were on the verge of glowing... because doesn't that mean that they're not glowing yet?
Noola2010-06-13 05:35:41
Well, haven't you looked at someone who was so happy that it seemed like at any moment they'd start emitting actual light? It's like, "Susan was so happy, she was practically glowing."
Well, maybe it's the same thing. That critter is so strong looking that it seems like at any moment it could start emitting it's own light. Only the writer used 'almost' instead of 'practically' but it works both ways, IMO.

Could someone forum-pm (or post in response) a log of one of the Quiz questions, from the start of that question to the start of the next inclusive?

So the lowest is something like level 1 and the highest something like level 100 then, and if I'd be level 50 my opponents would sit somewhere in the middle of the list?

ARTIFACT LIST
But...
If the pig nose, prayer beads, and smoke wreathed pipe (which are dingbat items) appear, shouldn't my Crow doll also be included in the artifacts list? Should I bug this?

I've read on forums that the crow doll doesnt show on that list for some reason, so its probably already been bugged. Can't hurt to bug it again though, just to be sure.

Would a biography be considered literary or scholarly? Or could it go either way depending on the tone of the piece?
Doman2010-06-13 18:33:33
Probably the tone. Memoirs or a scientific, neutral telling of someone's life would be scholarly, and a personal autobiography, or a biography of someone that doesn't have a serious theme would go the other way
Noola2010-06-13 19:36:26
Here's how I distinguish what's a 'scholarly' work and 'literary' work: Is it fiction or non-fiction. All fiction works are literary. All non-fiction works are scholarly. In fact, they could have used 'fiction' and 'non-fiction' as the actual terms, IMO, but they wanted to be fancier than that, so they used 'literary' and 'scholarly.'
99% of the time, a biography is going to be non-fiction, even if it is told in a humorous way. That other 1% is some grey area where someone is telling the biography of a mountain rockeater or something, but even then, most of the biography should be sharing facts of the way mountain rockeater's live so, IMO would mostly a scholarly work.
But, others might view it differently.

Elostian2010-06-13 19:50:11
I would argue that it depends on the tone and the subject. Mostly the subject in fact. If you were to write your own personal memoirs, I would say they are literary. If they were a rigurous biography of the life of Cririk Adom (to stay firmly on my own ground), they would be scholarly.
Alternatively, you could probably get away with making either book either cathegory if you really wanted.

The crow doll should be fixed. Baskets and jewelry boxes won't, but dolls should.

Well yeah, but I'm pretty sure that "volcanic" is still natural. It's curious, because Mimic won't work either, even if I'm standing in the room next to the creature I'm trying to mimic in that environment.
Sylphas2010-06-13 22:52:32
Did you Mimic 50 times? It takes ages.
