Hello everyone.

My question is this. I want to join Glomdring, yet I am a so-so fighter, I can never get any help with triggers, elsewhere that is. Which guild would work for one more into lone exploring and vermin hunting?

I will apologize beforehand but. having tried the other IRE muds, all of them. I do not want to be in a guild where everyone is stand-offish. I adore RP yet I have not been able to do so with regularity on the others because of 1. Snobbish people and 2. high playerbase.

Please. A few hints would be helpful.

Most of them would do well - Glomdoring tends to have the best RP, so don't worry about that. I'd lean towards Harbingers.

EDIT: Will explain more soon.

Double edit: Not Cacophony. The Glom bard guild!

I believe that Glomdoring is fairly well-known as a RP hotspot so every guild is prolly decent in that respect.

As for being more of a non-fighter, I'm not really sure what to recommend other than to tell you what I would do if joining a Glom guild. Cause I am the uber suck at fighting:

I'd stay away from the warrior guild cause warriors are, well, warriors and expected to fight always. That's just my own impression though, I have no concrete knowledge of the Ebonguard. (It's the same reason I hesitate to play in the ur'Guard too.)

Druids are just as bad as mages at needing to keep melds up so you'd prolly have to do a lot of that in fights. However, I do have a mage character that I successfully played as my main for over a RL year (she's on a bit of a back-burner now though) so being less of a fighter is possible.

I have no idea about Monk guilds - I haven't had a monk alt in any org yet, though my own impressions kind of lean towards viewing them in the same light as Warriror guilds... as fighting fighters.

Probably, your best bet for a character who can get away with less fighting without getting in trouble is going to be a Bard character or maybe a Wicca character.

But generally, everyone's expected to help out in defense once in a while in every guild and every org and even if you're very bad (like me) you can still do hindering things that'll help and keep you from getting noticed as 'that guy who never defends.'

Thank you both for taking the time to answer my question. smile.gif

If you want to mostly pull your own thing, yet interact with others, I'd say join a commune. Cities are often involved in raides / fighting and you're more likely to be singled out there if you do not defend.

As for RP.. try Glomdoring. Serenwilde has its good people (and I adore the general atmosphere there) but I wouldn't call it utterly immersive RP.. dry.gif

PS: I'd also go with an utility guild so I'd say Harbinger for you, although Shadowdancers have utility skills also but you almost need to be trans night there to bash decently because of nightkiss. Bard may be less credit intensive.

The Cacophony isn't a Glomdoring guild. wtf.gif

I like to think of the Glomdoring as the place where everyone needs to be a fighter. Not just physically, though - you can participate in mental fights, in influence fights, in spiritual fights, through the library, cultural work, sermons, the influence skill, et cetera.

To my understanding, Noola's got most of it down - warriors are expected to fight physically. Joining the Blacktalon means you will need to learn, at the least, how to keep a watch out for enemies, but defense-wise, you learn early on a skill that will help in hindering. It does have specific training for people who'd prefer to learn more about leadership, culture, or history.

I don't know too much about the Shadowdancers, but at the very least they get the same early-on hindering skill as the Blacktalon do, and they seem more spiritual so they might have even more room for you to not worry about combat. I also don't have much experience with the Harbingers, except that I have a friend who played one of them. He immensely enjoyed it - and he wasn't very good at the fighting thing either.

Nekotai is probably similar to the Ebonguard - you'll probably be expected to fight if you're a monk. However, they have some delicious RP recently set up for them for a Nature Spirit called Grandmother Scorpion, so if you want to play a monk character, they're probably the guild with the most background available to them.

Yay Shofangi have no delicious background. Yay Shofangi have a coder patron that is more likely to code than do RP for and with them. *sulks in a corner*.

My thoughts on each Glomdoring Guild (I'm the CL there atm if that adds any weight to my view tongue.gif)

Harbingers- Probably the most 'friendly' of the glomdoring guilds, it isn't elitist, nor snobbish. For bashing you only really need maestro in your instrument which isn't skill dependant all. You also get your main pvp skills very early on (though hard to make use of without higher skills.) The guild can be a little quiet but for low credit investment it isn't a bad choice. ((My suggestion skill wise)

Shadowdancers - The coven has this air of elitisim, but it's really more to outsiders than within the guild themselves. This comes from trying to achieve 'perfection' both in physical beauty and mental strength as per the teachings of Mother Night, a spirit the guild follows. You need lots of credits to fight well in both pvp and to bash for this guild, though the rp is really good.

Blacktalon- The Blacktalon have the most fantastic rp base, which they have never quite capitalised on. The concept however is one of the coolest I've ever come across. You need trans druidry to bash effectivly, and even then you won't bash well, but you can do well with low skills, so long as you don't mind taking order in combat and fighting in a set space. ((my suggestion RP wise)

Ebonguard - The coolest guildhall in the game (sorry ashteru), literally in the body of a huge living wyrm/dragon type thing called the Ebonglom Wyrdling. A fairly quiet guild, members keep pretty much to themselves I think. You'll need credits to fight well and bash well unfortunatly (or find a helpful forger)

Nekotai - The nekotai are a difficult choice, with the finding of Grandmother scorpion they have a nice rp link to build on but haven't done so yet. Might be a good place for a ambitious role-player to really make their mark, but it'll be a long road. Bashing is very nice as nekotai, I'm not sure what else to say here.

Any more questions so just say, or try alts in the few guilds that take your fancy

It wasn't a Glomdoring admin who set that delicious Nekotai RP up afaik, heh.

When I'm around, I try to get a basic link to Scorpion underway... hoping to finish it off this week, if I get lucky.

In general Glomdoring does have Excellent RP...but you'll have to look for it, simply because there are NO people there. At all. They tend to have half of the numbers of one of the other orgs around.

That said, I do suggest you try Monk. They are a bit broken as far as combat goes, so you might be able to weasle out of that. They're very good for hunting, and they cost much less to equip then a warrior. Druids...never played as one, but if it's anything like Mage, you can proabably get out of Melding rather easy. I know I always did.

These are vicious Seren lies designed to keep the Glommie population down >.>

Honestly, while we do have a smaller population than other orgs, I'm incredibly happy to say that we've been getting a noticeable amount of promising newbies in, as well as more than a few established converts! Put simply, Glomdoring population is on the rise smile.gif

I look forward to seeing you in-game!
