From: Estarra, the Eternal

Subj: Domoth Revisions
- Domoth Power generation has been cut in half.
- Domoth essence generation has been reduced.
- Domoth Absolve has been made more difficult as the time required has
been doubled.
- Domoth Flux has been implemented. What this means is that within a
month after the new year a pair of domoths will go in flux and free
themselves from control. The exception to the rule of pairs would be
when harmony and chaos go into flux, so too will nature.
Penned by My hand on the 8th of Roarkian, in the year 217 CE.

So...this coming new IC year then, let's say Death and Life go free. What then? Do orgs race to claim it fully from Sceptre and have to build them both up to Crown level again?

I like most the changes except the essence one. Essence was fine if you didn't have three thrones, which only a select few could get. A better fix to the hoarding essence would probably just have been to reduce the amount of thrones someone could hold across the board. :/ Like, non-seal ascendants could hold one throne each, seal ascendants could hold two. Oh well. Still good changes.

Why will it be unplayable?

<- demigod
<- will be required to die over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. (Same reason I totally avoid village influences whereever I can. I hate forced battles. I hate it even more when you have a time limit to accomplish something. Yuck. )
They didn't make this change at Roarkin for nothing. There'll be lots of camping involved in domoth battles now. Y. U. C. K.

Piffle. Whenever someone says, "Come here and help with this Domoth!" you should say, "What? I'm sorry, the aether here is really unstable, I didn't get that" and go about your business.

Mixed feelings about this. On the one side, I really love the changes, because now one org (albeit it being Rika's) cannot just have all the Domoths. This is good for balance and also good because now we don't have to feel like we -must- get them (since they're going to come free eventually).
However, I was hoping the report would cover the strength of the mobs. Currently, things like Beauty (mass entanglement/off eq/stupidity), Harmony (mass room damage) and apparently Justice (mass blackout/blindness/off bal) are hard for a completely buffed up warrior, let alone non-warriors. IMO, Knowledge paradoxes is a good target to be aiming for (so some mobs will need to be upgraded). These are a challenge, but are definitely manageable.
Second thing I don't like about the report is that it is even more important from a practical PoV to raise a mortal over a demigod when it comes to vernal ascendants. As far as many people are concerned, it's a numbers game.

Honestly Rika, damage is perfectly balanced, domoths are too. Everyone who didn't choose warrior at character creation and pumped thousands of credits into their char.. well it's their own damn fault for not doing it. If they want to screw themselves, they can. We don't have to baby idiot players after all.
Rika2008-10-03 19:34:15
The only real difference between a warrior and a non-warrior in terms of health is surge. Without surge, we are pretty much the same as everyone else.

You know, when I used to make complaints like these, people would remind me again and again that domoths are optional. I've learned to accept this as fact. You can too!

Don't forget Vitality!
Rika2008-10-03 19:47:31
Fine, vitality as well. But seriously, a lot of why people think demigod warriors is so tanky is 1) we have more health from surge and 2) people like Thoros will do everything he can to buff himself up as much as possible. Reminds me a bit about warrior damage. Hmm!

Not true. Warrior races tend to have higher con than the mage/bard/guardian races. THEN there is surge, which has the potential to add a hefty hunk to your health.
Warriors also kill things faster at demi than any other archetype. Tanking more and killing faster = easier domoths.
Desitrus2008-10-03 19:55:29
Warriors typically have higher physical DMP due to plate, putre, numen, etc etc blah blah.

About as optional as city / commune membership is.

I just hate that this will end up as camping fests now. I've had enough of those with villages (way back) and weakenings already. *twitches*

If you have to participate, so does Raguel!

The essence gain nerf is pretty harsh considering they go completely free every IC year and we have to build up the thrones from rod to crown all over again.
Otherwise, everyone else is just whining. Domoths just pretty much became a wildnodes for demis every 12 RL days, nothing more to it.
The disparity between domoth mobs is pretty meh, but hey, can deal with it.
P.S. Suckers, I got rank 1 already.
