What if we allowed a general pool for some of the more basic mantras that allowed you to gain their effects but didn't contribute to the regeneration or elements for spirit mantras. This pool could only contain the more basic defenses, and couldn't be duplicated with actual chanting ((IE, no double Angphets)). You could also switch mantras from this pool to active chants at a reduced penalty, and the pool would grow as your skill level increased to something like 5 basic mantras, equaling roughly eight mantra effects and maybe one spirit mantra. My only concern with this is the elements.

They're gonna change the instakill even without the special report. (Topic please! That's where the ideas are really needed...)
Topic is Harmony and the instakill is part of it and I had no idea they're already changing it...
But anyway, been said before but I'll say it again, "simplest" solution as I see it, is make Harmony first part (up to master) to work like totems, and the second part to be limited to 3 mantras... maybe will require changing the order of skills a bit, and will need to think how to make regeneration work in this new condition...
That's my 2 cents
Edit: And before anyone brings up again the point that psionics can lock 3 channels, like harmony mantras, psionics and the specializations can use some of the skills without locking channels, meaning you can actually use more then 3 skills at a time (and even that I hated enough to switch to acrobatics).

Yes, but not enough to fix the entire issue yet. Harmony would still need active skills and certain effects replaced / changed.
Not even going into the "harmony has no theme".
PS: Otherwise I like the idea though.
Lorick2008-10-07 20:00:48
Well, we are required to change the skillset with the most minimal work, and I feel that at the very least that sort of change would greatly increase Harmony's value. Do I feel that it is exactly what I want and all of what I want? No... But, it seems we aren't allowed to submit reworks. So.. I went with the option that doesn't offer any skill changes as of yet. If we can wiggle those in, I'll be all for them as well. What sort of ideas did you have for active/flavor?

To those interested, we have accepted the request for a Harmony special report. Please send suggestions/comments/concerns to your respective envoys.

There is more than one way to passively interrupt the kata.
Rika2008-10-08 00:11:35
What is so bad about Chuuti? I have never had any trouble against it..

Try as a monk. If it fires when there is still an attack left in the form, it stops the kata.
Rika2008-10-08 00:19:43
Oh, okay. But against anyone else?

Just another affliction to cure, might screw up a psionist, but useless against Guardians and city warriors.
Lorick2008-10-08 01:00:10
Pretty much Chuuti in a nutshell. Sort of like the chill spirit mantra, expect... Not a spirit mantra.

Since we're talking about harmony, how much damage does banish do?

Anyhow, I think what we are looking for right now is a little niche that we could put harmony into. A "theme" if you so want too. Personally, I'm thinking of something like the Spiritsingers have. With their report they basically got one additional skill (ancestral spirits) but for being 1 skill it is incredible handy, can do a lot of things AND it gives them a nice theme - or niche if you so want.
So, any ideas?

Is that the karma attack that hits dreambodies? If so, a hell of a lot.

Crazy auras that affect everyone in the room?

Yes, it is. Any more exact figures? I remember Eldanien mentioning like 2k or something.

I realize people aren't so into healing/buffing, but I think the ability to tie a single chant's effects to someone would be really nifty. Not all of them(I don't even want to think about all the pansies whining about chuuti-deffed knights and stuff ), but the basic idea would be that those trained in Harmony could help others attune themselves to their environment in limited ways. Just one def per person, lose it on log/death per normal.
Edit: Perhaps one that ties the harmonic vibrations or what have you of the monk to the environment, based on...hmm. Race? Yeah. That could be fun. Humans use this skill and everyone in the room gets a +1 weighted buff to all stats, lobo's give a level of health regen, those one-eyed dudes introduce a small reoccurring chance of disrupting illusions.

No way, could you even start to think of a Chuuti-deffed knight? On another note, I don't think harmony needs much of an upgrade. It may be boring but it is still a very good skillset. Kind of like how stealth is funderfull yet sucky.

You're always opposed to doing anything to Harmony, giving reasons that we who use it on a daily basis find to be just silly. Have you ever used this skillset?
If you want to compare it to Stealth, let me reiterate that Stealth has a single skill that is not matched by any single skill or currently possible combination of skills in Harmony.

I agree, room chants for power, everyone gets chuuti.
Beating that, needs more kai choke.
