Shears

So, anyway, an idea for tailoring...a skill, probably called Shearing if it goes through, that gives back the partial comm gain that the shears give now.
In the name of balance, have the shears give 100% comm gain when used to shear something.

I like and 2nd.

Good. If more people like and second we should get some admin attention.
EVERYONE QFT KRIN'S POST!

Actually, I was going to add on that this skill could probably replace Batting. I mean, seriously, who uses 100 silk just to proof a vest?

While I do love the idea and would welcome getting back 100% comms with shears, it does cause me one concern. I can see a tailor chained to a sewing bench doing a robe over and over until a robe gets enchanted with 'the best stats'. I do have shears currently. For one person, I have already done this ... make a robe they would enchant it, return it to me to shear ... give me the additional comms to make it again and we repeated this process 15 to 20 times until they ran out of comms.

... ... ...no

Be happy you can get something back, most people would expect that you'd be trans tailoring if you have shears so therefore expect that you would have this ability meaning you just want to get 100% return which no trade has 'cept forgers but they suffer with the all-metal requirement + forging ('nuff said I believe) (oh jewelers too I think but again all metal)

If you want this because of say... robe stats perhaps you should look at enchanters getting some ability to disenchant and re-enchant robes to aim for better stats. There's no real reason otherwise.

As to batting, it does serve a purpose just that with current design robes seem to be the favoured option (though acrobats I believe are encouraged into leather)
Perhaps the cost could be looked at but it's the ability to add protection against different damage types that leather armour would benefit from

This is actually what forgers go through with armour AND weaponry, they afk for days to get the stats they want. Though full-metal designs let them continue without extra cost

Yeah, you're right...making tailoring into "forging with cloth" wouldn't be a good idea. Nor would we want to have enchanters endlessly slaving away over a pentagram, seeking the perfect robes...so, maybe have it usable only on non-enchanted great/splendor robes?

Then what's the point? People that make things for shop take the risk that no one will want the design, everyone else just makes to order. Once made they get enchanted, depending on the shop they may come enchanted already.

Even if it might not have potention to revolutionize tailoring, and even if it doesn't have a huge amount of profit viability, I'd still like to be able to get comms back on some of my stuff.

You do, shears give you "some" comms back not all, if you got all you could just constantly recreate the same things over and over. Now the more expensive (base comm price/requirement) trades need this because... really who wants warriors to have to buy hundreds of steel comms for every reforge of a sword.

If it's not to benefit great robes then there is no real point because from memory, everything else in tailoring is really cheap.

The question still remains why do you want to get 100% comms back, keeping in mind that
Artisans, Alchemists, Bookbinders and Cooks get nothing back (unless I missed a change)
Jewelers and Forgers can only get 100% back if the design is only metal which makes designs more expensive
Estarra2008-10-12 16:46:04
I definitely do not like the idea of giving 100% of commodities back.
Fania2008-10-18 00:50:44
I've had my tailoring at transcendent for a while, and I don't think I'll ever buy shears. There have been several times where I've had the money to buy them, but I don't think that they are worth it. I don't know about giving all commodities back, but it would be nice to see some kind of change.

I've personally never used batting because 100 silk just is a crazy amount and robes are basically just like vests. Maybe we could have batting cost the same amount of commodities as robes. Personally I think vests should be in the same category as robes, and exchange the batting skill for something that makes a difference to tailoring. Like making some kind of defensive clothing for our new beasties.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't jewelers get 100% back unless it's a corpse/quest item sort of thing? Like chickens, or firegems?
Unknown2008-10-18 02:31:18
can we get all metal tailoring designed robes and then get 100% comms back?
