Divorce Lines

The obvious point of a divorce line is to lessen the amount of people who get married and divorced on a whim. I found this sort of worked in Achaea but not really because if someone wanted to get married 6 times they were going to do it whether or not they got an honors line for it.

For Lusternia it's not the same case. Using Achaea as the prime example, here in Lusternia you have to have a willing and active spouse in order to adopt children. In Achaea Susan can be married to Bob but still 'have' kids with Tim if Bob isn't around to adopt them.

What happens when your Lusternian spouse goes inactive, and you find a kid you really want to adopt? Either you watch the kid fall into another family, or you get divorced and face of your fears of having your honors marked with, "S/he has been divorced x.' and begin the process of dating all over again.

While having the Admin change the family system doesn't seem like a foreseeable solution to this problem, something that will help a lot is the removal of the divorce line (but leaving any marriage lines/engagements intact). While the divorce line is meant to discourage people from being whimsy with relationships - one has to keep in mind that this is the Internet and people will make mistakes regardless of whether it's a game or not. If someone wants to be married several times he or she will go ahead and get married several times. What isn't fair is when a couple get married and one goes inactive and the active one is left with the backpack full of silverware instead of the parachute.

I know Aetolia removed the divorce lines because they saw no real need for them, but if Lusty Admin are straight up against the removal of divorce lines, then consider an artifact costing about 150-250cr that removed it for the person.

- Rune of Annulled Judicial Declaration
- Removes the divorce lines from your honors and prevents it from appearing again

Cost: 150-250cr.

Please discuss.

I think we all play the same game and are aware of the mechanics, and if the fact that your character got divorced is something that matters to the potential new spouse, then...doesn't the spouse deserve to know?

Can't they just ask?

Anyway, there really -isn't- a need for the divorce line, and I can see why it would bother people to be marked like that, so sure, deleting it would be a good idea.

I don't mind, just adds to the honour. tongue.gif But I wouldn't really mind if it went either. Not one of those things which bugs me.

Hence the artie. You pick and choose biggrin.gif.

Does someone really want to get divorced and not want it to show on honours? :peer:

I really don't see the big deal in the line.

I mean family tree will show who all he was married to and how many divorces he had too.

So the line means very little in the grand scheme of things and an artie to remove it sounds like a very low priority (Read: unneeded) game mechanic.

Admittedly, yeah. Not because my character's marriage is failing, but because of hard coded game mechanics in light of recently revealed history regarding the Celestines and their official Great House. A divorce is unlikely to be avoided and it is kind of a mess. Getting a divorce would suck since there would be no reason to except to secure a family line. etc. sad.gif

If Divorce Lines poof, there should be a way to see who's been married to who, when they married, and when they divorced. superninja.gif

No one cares about divorce lines in Achaea. In fact, some people have tried to go for the high score.
Sylphas2008-10-09 05:01:09
Half of the reason I was bugging the admin so much was that Shakaya was damnably annoyed at having to get divorced before I could be made a Talnara. Thankfully, they spared us the hassle.

I hate divorce lines, always have. I wish they'd just flat be removed and skip the whole artifact thing, too. Some people may think it's not a big deal, but for some, having a display of their failure for the whole world to see is really bothersome. I won't get into the various scenarios in which the line may be uncalled for, but they do exist. Also, a divorce is also recorded within family trees. At least it is recorded in the family tree of the family a person married in to. Is that not enough?

There semi-is already. For example if I FAMILY TREE L'ETERNAE

***************************************************
Active Family Members: 7
Inactive Family Members: 4
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Progenitors:
Founder: (A) Laysus L'Eternae
Founder: (A) Raiha L'Eternae
(I) Sivriel Mes'ard
(I) Acrune
(I) Iola Starfall
(A) Zyanya L'Eternae
The First Generation:
(I) Teale
(A) Belisma L'Eternae
(A) Xiran L'Eternae
(A) Alban L'Eternae
(A) Serella L'Eternae

You can see that Sivriel and I have both divorced Laysus and that Acrune divorced Raiha (though it does sometimes look to me like Laysus died...).

It takes longer, yeah, but it's there smile.gif

So....Aison...this proposed artifact has the same psychological effect as the Penumbra skill to some extent?

I just consider divorse lines to be a line in a text game. The people your associating with being clearly more important.

But, if there is a market for it and its easy to code... confused.gif
Aison2008-10-09 17:03:47
It is just a line of text in a game. However, being a player of IRE for several years, having played a divorced character in one, I'd prefer to avoid it. I do care what is on certain character's honors that I play - hence why I pick and choose what quests I want to do or what my character's title is, etc.

They allow an artifact to change your gender on a monthly basis, which I always thought was pretty silly, but that has a pretty big market for a game so small (since it can be beneficial on a combatant level). I'm sure an artifact that gets rid of the divorce line will be popular, too, since most people in the game don't get divorced because of silly dramatic reasons, but because their spouse went inactive and they have a dream of becoming a great house.

Ah I see. Didn't realize the divorce lines were inhibitory to this process. Anyway I'm assuming easy to code and makes generates revenue for Lusty so why not.
