Subj: New Release: Beastmastery!

Courtesy of the dracnari, the new skill of Beastmastery has entered the
Basin of Life. THIS SKILL WILL EVENTUALLY REPLACE RIDING. Until we are
ready to retire the skill of Riding permanently, your skill level in
beastmastery will use the skill level in Riding and vice versa (i.e.,
learning in one will be the same as learning in the other). Beastmastery
involves raising special beasts and training them in special abilities.
Teaching them requires the use of reagents which is a new skill in
alchemy. You must keep your beasts fed while they are out of their
stables with special feed created with a new skill in Cooking. See HELP
BEASTMASTERY for more information.

Some of you who frequent the forums may have noticed that we have always
rejected any ideas for Riding and ducked any conversations with Riding.

That's because we have always had the idea for Beastmastery but just
never the time to implement it. However, while we were in the process of
updating so many skillsets brought up with the special envoy report
process, we decided to sneak Beastmastery in and ready it for release
during the anniversary, and this is the result!

Thus, I hope you will enjoy yet another unique skillset brought to you
by the fine designers and coders of Lusternia! Everyone who participated
in the scavenger hunt and got a "ball of flesh" will note that it is now
a colt in a stasis field, which is your first beast! Right now, horses
are the only beasts we have released which we are using to test
Beastmastery (sold in Stewartsville). Ultimately, we will release more
beasts and retire the Riding skillset.

NOTE ON PETS: We will no longer sell pets as you currently know them. In
the future, they will be beasts with special powers. However, if you
currently have a pet, it is your choice to have it converted to the new
beast system (recommended) or leave it as it is. Please ISSUE yourself
if you want an existing pet converted to a beast to be used with
beastmastery.

Pets take awhile to get used to and take some time to train so please
don't jump to any assumptions that they are overpowered or unbalanced
(we really don't believe they are). However, we will be monitoring
Beastmastery closely and will be looking for input on the forums.

As a word of advice, after your beasts reach adulthood (one year after
their "birth"), their physical appearance will PERMANENTLY change based
on their diet, so be careful! Feeding a horse a diet of meat, fish and
eggs will look much different from one fed on a diet of oats, vegetables
and fruit!

QUOTE(HELP BEASTMASTERY)
9.1.13 THE BEASTMASTERY SKILL (Common)

The ancient dracnari skill of Beastmastery allows the training and
transformation of certain creatures, sometimes referred to as beasts, which can
range from a simple horse to a great winged wyvern. By using certain alchemical
reagents, beasts can be transformed to grow wings or taught to cast simple
spells. Although you may have and train as many beasts as you like (and can
afford the stable fees), you can only ever have one beast out at any one time.

ANATOMY OF A BEAST
------------------
* Birthdate : Determined when the beast leaves incubation.
* Health : Determined by the level and body trains.
* Mana : Determined by the level and mind trains.
* Ego : Determined by the level and spirit trains.
* Level : Determined by experience, ranging from 1-12.

FEEDING AND TRAINING
--------------------
Syntax:
BEAST FILL FEEDBAG WITH
BEAST ADMINISTER
BEAST TRAIN

You must keep your beast fed when out of the stables. So long as your beast is
in the stable (and stable fees paid), the best is considered being taken care
of. Cooks prepare several types of special feed for beasts (meat, oats, fish,
vegetables, eggs, fruit). It is important the diet you give your beast in its
youth stage (i.e., the first year after incubation), because its adult physical
appearance will be determined by what food it consumes in its first year.

Further, in order to train the beast, you must feed it special reagents
developed for its body, mind or spirit. However, a beast cannot ingest a
reagent until its body, mind or spirit, respectively, has been prepared through
a strict diet. Every beast can have a maximum of 600 training points to be
spread among body, mind and ego.

STATISTIC REAGENT FEED TYPE
Body Bodoru Meat/Oats
Mind Mindoru Fish/Vegetables
Spirit Suporu Eggs/Fruit

As your skill in beastmastery improves, you will be able to train more
abilities into your pet, and transform your pet to do more incredible things,
such as growing wings onto a horse to make it fly. However, training abilities
will use up training points and each beast can only have 600 training points.

EXCEPTION: Some beasts have inherent abilities. For example, a beast that
naturally has wings already knows how to fly and thus you do not need to train
a beast for flying. HOWEVER, even if a beast has an inherent ability, you will
not be able to use that ability unless you have that skill in Beastmastery.

BEAST STABLES
-------------

Syntax:
STABLE LIST
STABLE INCUBATE
STABLE HOUSE
STABLE REMOVE
STABLE PAY

There is one stable on Avechna's peak that anyone may use called the Kiakodan
Community Stables. It is located in the Kiakodan Nature Reserve just north of
Quillion Jones.

Every city or commune can have its own stable. The difference is cost for
stabling. The city/commune stable costs 150 gp per month and the general stable
costs 2x as much. You can pay up to 3 game years in advance.

EXPERIENCE, LEVELS, RECUPERATION AND DEATH
------------------------------------------
A beast starts at level 1. If the beast dies at level 1, it will permanently
die. The beast will gain experience as you gain experience, so long as that
beast is in your entourage. The maximum level a beast may reach is level 12. If
your beast dies with over 1 level of experience, it will lose the equivalent of
1 level of experience and be considered "recuperating". Beasts normally
recuperate for one full hour which means it will return to its stable and
cannot be called for one hour day.

If your beast is in the stables and there are no fees prepaid, your beast will
slowly be neglected and lose one level of experience per month until fees are
paid up or the beast permanently dies.

MISCELLANEOUS
-------------
* Collar of the Beastmaster
* Adds an extra 100 training points
* Can never die; permanent level 12
* Does not pay stable fees.

* Bought Pets
* Can retrain once per game month
* Adds an extra 200 training points
* Can never die; permanent level 13
* Does not pay stable fees.
* Special: Phoenix Option allows pet to be summoned
from stalls 10 minutes after death (rather than one hour).

woot nothing like more passive attacks in the game. Jokes aside probably a bad idea.
Esano2008-10-11 23:43:13
Someone add the skill list to Scrying Pool?

Will loyals (e.g. taint wyrm, dragon turtle) count?

And I have some lessons I might put in, if it's good enough.
Iola2008-10-11 23:43:38
Looks interesting. It sounds like it will only be equine creatures though?
Rika2008-10-11 23:43:45
And yay winning the treasure hunt to eventually transcendant Beastmastery.
Acrune2008-10-11 23:47:33
Fancy, someone trans it and post the skills on the scrying pool.
Noola2008-10-11 23:52:55
Well, that just sounds all sorts of nifty!

I will add the questions I had here as well.

1. What do pet owners that have the 400 credit amnesia upgrade get in return if they convert
2. Why should I make my pet mortal, can we not get an upgrade where we can make it immortal like a ecology familiar.
Acrune2008-10-11 23:56:17
Hmm, how does this affect my dragon turtle?

Yes, but I'm assuming you can put said collar on said pet to make it immortal.
Noola2008-10-11 23:59:00
Does this mean that artifact-like pets bought with credits won't be possible anymore? Or only possible within limits that make them different than the beastmastery beasts?

It just means the pet can't die permanently, they still have to recuperate. In other words, Anisu wants to know why should should trade in a pet that cannot be killed for one that effectively can be (even though it'd come back later)

What'd we say about jumping to conclusions? There are no passive attacks!

Feel free to comment after you have you know how it works, though.

So, just to understand...currently, the only animals to be tested with this are horses? Can you have more than one trained mount?

1. We'll either refund the 400 credits or convert make the amnesiacloud spell casting ability an inherent ability (we haven't decided yet). Don't make any rash decisions before you understand how beastmastery works!

2. If you make your pet into a beast, you can train it with the beastmastery powers (like armour, bodyguard, fire breathing, etc.). If not, you can't. If your pet is invincible, it will get the phoenix power (only available to pets) which allows it to be resummoned in 10 minutes.

The mare I currently own, is considered a beast for this skillset? It's collared so I would hope so. :/

Right now, we are ONLY using this with horses. Eventually, we will add more beasts and possibly convert the mage and druid steeds into beasts (though its problematic as they will probably have to lose their current powers and just get free inherent abilities).

You can have as many beasts as you can afford to stable, but you can only ever have one out at a time.
