I'm not sure if it's been answered yet but, if you buy a pet with some inheirtant abilities, do you need the proper skill in beastmastery to make use of it? Say if I bought a pet and then spent credits to make it improve my empowering influencing, would I still need to learn that in beastmastery?

Yes, you would.
Kiradawea2008-12-21 01:22:48
Even for a pet? Considering that those inheirtant abilities already cost credits to achieve.
Rika2008-12-21 01:26:33
The advantage to inherents is that you don't have to spend the limited trains on them. However, with 800 trains, the only situation where I see it being worthwhile to spend credits on an inherent is when you want to train spellcasting and put all its trains on mind for mana with all the other abilities as inherents.
Kiradawea2008-12-21 01:38:04
Yeah, but what about converted pets, or pets using the special 900 credit package. That makes the real price 1100 credits+ just to make use of all you've bought.

I just want my mount to scoop, otherwise I can't mount and hunt.

CODE
# AdvancedRiding      You've learned advanced skills for riding a mount.

    * Gifted 66%
    * Your skills in riding mounted beasts have improved to the extent where
you are capable of the following skills:

      Syntax: VAULT
Instead of mounting a beast trained in riding, you can vault onto it,
cutting your balance time by two-thirds.

      Syntax: GET
Your ease of being upon your steed is so great that you can easily
scoop up items that lay on the ground while still mounted.

Pets have 150 inherent, beasts can have up to 200. Put a collar on a mammoth, and for 250cr and 306k, you have a pet that can be trained only 50 points shy of a 900cr pet. Quite the deal.

Pets are a little bit different, not least of which is the ability to rearrange their trains.

Beastmastery sucks.

I know you spent alot of time coding it, but it was a waste. Riding was perfectly great already! It's now more expensive to use wyrms and familiars and you now have to wait to let them grow. Then, if they get killed in battle, you have to wait a month or so just to see if it will survive. And if you don't forget to feed it. And if it gets killed by accident.

If we want to take care of creatures, feed them, give them love, we'll play Harvest Moon. Or Pokemon.

Don't for get that if you don't train them you won't be able to use their abilities as freely or even that much.

I like beast raising as an optional thing, but i don't like it as a mandatory part of the guild
Rika2008-12-24 15:04:31
It's not mandatory. You just don't get to use one of your skills.

Yes, we lose an ability unless we spend time working to get it going again.

As part of a guild skill this ability can quite easily become an important factor in combat, also has anyone confirmed if we can have two or more just cause the idea that I might have to kill off a stag because it doesn't have the abilities I want it to have seems an inappropriate ic action. Other mounts you could easily sell to someone else but I think the Hartstone have already received death threats if they consider that option
Eamon2008-12-24 16:25:36
I don't understand how you can argue that raising a beast is going to take up all of your time. You get to use the guild skill without any skill in beastmastery. Stable fees are a pittance of gold. You could if you wanted to spend an hour leveling your beast, which is about all it takes to get it to level 8 or so (I did 1 to 12 in 1.5 hours, at a leisurely pace). Any additional feed or reagents you put in are not mandatory in the least, but will obviously help. So, like many other things, you need to put in a little work to reap some reward? Given what you get for free already, I'd say beastmastery has been a fantastic change, especially where the guild skills are concerned.

Make it four.

Here's my issue(s) with it.

Why do I have to train a beast to trot? It should be automatic.
Training a beast to allow you to mount it? That should be automatic.
Investing 300 credits into a skillset with abilities you can't even make use of?
Aggressive and battle are worthless, after hearing test results on the damage.
Having to summon my pet from a stable takes too long. I miss having it snuggled in my INV where it belongs!

Ilyarin2008-12-24 18:42:42
I don't think Trotting should be automatic - it gives the user a +speed, which is available in an artifact. Getting the power an artifact bestows shouldn't be free. It's hardly a lot anyway: 30 body. Mounting is hardly worth worrying over either at 10 body. Almost every skillset has abilities you rarely, if ever, use... This isn't any different I don't think. And anyway, if you have multiple beasts you can effectively use every skill at any time. Dunno about aggressive and battle but I heard they weren't too bad.
Shaddus2008-12-24 18:47:55
How many of you ride horses and such on a regular basis?

Now, for the rest of you, how many think you could just jump on a horse and ride it right off the bat?
