So how transparent are the effects of alchemy on beasts? Will I know what will eventually make my beast sprout wings and spit fire? Will this part of the beast system be applied to credit-bought pets at all? freaked.gif

^ That one! (or three)

Any chance these things will have other tie-ins with the tradeskills, like constructs or figurines do?

We played around with that but we weren't impressed with the ideas we were coming up with and, more importantly, didn't want to make an already complicated system even more complicated.

We could change our mind on that, so feel free to make suggestions in ideas!

Esano2008-10-12 01:40:45
Did you consider that alchemists (and the communes) don't need more gold? tongue.gif

Little booties in tailoring for the wee little things. And fake antlers. Dress up the pets! (Though it doesn't necessarily need to do anything, people do seem to like such options.)

I'll name mine... Sam.

I think that was his name, the dog from the Grench movie?
Anisu2008-10-12 01:44:54
hrm think I will upgrade soph, keep him as pet and get a new beast pet.

Insert mad cackling here

Also insert attempt to bribe Estarra to elevate me to true ascendant for 2000 credits here.

(yes I only said the bribe part to make Rika feel bad)

Pets will look like however you customize it.

Beasts without wings will grow wings (if they don't inherently fly). That really will be the only noticeable effect. They won't change upon breathing fire, etc.

If this wasn't clear, beasts incubate for 24 hours (1 game month). Afterwards, they then enter their juvenile phase for ~12 days (1 game year). Then, they will transform into their permanent adult appearance. Their appearance depends on their diet during their juvenile period so make sure you watch what they eat!

meh, This means I have to wait to get my Beasty Wyvern with 6 wings, 3 tails, that breaths a cone of psionic death.

Still not quite clear. What I meant by transparency is..well, will we know that feeding Pet1 + X amount of tubers + X amount of rib-eye steaks = Pet1-with-wings-and-spots? Or do I just have to experiment to discover the final effects? If so...how expensive will it be to do these experiments? Roughly, I mean...10k? 100 million?
Romero2008-10-12 01:52:06
Useless demons, everyone has one now. Big swipe at guardians and other classes who use 'pets' already.
Esano2008-10-12 01:53:30
Demons aren't pets, and you'll be able to use both of them at the same time. Different effects, too.

Pets won't grow wings based on what you feed them. They grow wings if you train them to fly, assuming you have enough training points in body. How many training points in body is determined by how many bodoru reagents you give the beast. How much bodoru reagent you are able to give a beast is determined by how much meat or oats (the body foods) you have fed the beast. Confused yet?

Now, what the wings look like IS determined by whether it was meat or oats (or combination of the two) you fed the beast!

EDIT: And there's a fair bit of variation on what, for example, a full meat diet would look like, some manifestations being rarer or more common than others.

So... how does this work with purchased/converted pets?

It won't work. Pets look like however they were customized and they don't get hungry so you don't have to feed them.

Usually people that want pets to fly purchase the flying option and describe them with wings. There's not much we can do with pets without wings that then are trained to fly. Hopefully, this won't be common!
Unknown2008-10-12 02:03:34
For those looking for reagents:

Reagents aren't liquids. No need for vials.

Poor Kaasma...

(Would pre-existing pets that get converted over to this have an option to have wings added to the description, if desired? Or would that cost more)
