It does seem arbitrary that humans would be described as "ordinary", doesn't it? In the context of the Basin of life, humans are no more or less unusual than the other races. Even within our own out of character context they are unusual, in that we real ordinary humans do not suddenly begin evolving.

I like the way you discuss stuff.

Actually they're probably the least ordinary, since they're the only race that's not native to Lusternia, and since they are shards not of a mere Elder God but of part of the Son of Yudhe, and since they're in theory the only race that can crossbreed with everyone (except maybe viscanti... not that anyone really observes that bit of canon anyway). "ordinary" is nothing more than an Achaea legacy that never got fixed.
Dai2009-09-24 16:26:35
I am flattered. But I'm honestly curious, now. Does "ordinary" in Lusternia have a different meaning from our own? Is it "ordinary" to accompany a Divinity out of a black hole, fresh from another dimension, and begin breeding with everything in sight? (This addressed to Reiha, and not to Mr Lendren, who has evidently ninjaed me.) (And after reading - in doing so, answering all my gripes. I hereby withdraw these gripes and lobby for "ordinary" to be altered, if for no other reason that it stifles my ability to describe a human crowned with a golden aura and sprouting angelic wings.)
Reiha2009-09-24 16:26:40
lol with/@ Ethelon and forest fires
Shiri2009-09-24 16:31:43
Real humans do evolve more or less in the context of how Lusternia actually uses the word, though, it just happens to be more like the pokemon definition of evolution than the regular one...

I suppose we do become stronger/more intelligent with prolonged practise and/or study. I wonder if this would be considered unusual in the Basin of life? Does weightlifting exist, and if so would it only have a marked effect on humans? Is the muscle mass growth of a faeling stunted?

And because I'm too lazy to avoid a double-post -

You two better make lots of babies since the inevitable is coming!

Lia's only 19! Baby making will have to wait.

What's the inevitable, btw?

Hm. I suppose these specific abilities are rooted in practise, but intelligence boosts, by contrast, seem solely magical in origin. Granted intellect in-game is more a measure of magical ability than cognitive ability, but one would still think study would have some impact there...

Not on magical aptitude, I wouldn't think. Maybe on the spells/techniques you know, though. *coughlessons*

You point your staff at a decaying gargoyle and it swells, rapidly discharging a torrent of poisonous fumes and sharp rocks into his body, engulfing flesh and spirit with deadly venoms.
You have scored a WORLD-SHATTERING CRITICAL HIT!!!
A decaying gargoyle turns purple as the poisonous fumes overcome him and blood gushes out of his mouth as he collapses to the floor, dead.
You have slain a decaying gargoyle.
A bit of dark essence tumbles out of a decaying gargoyle.
A small pile of sovereigns spill from the corpse.
You suddenly scoop up the corpse of a decaying gargoyle.

Whee!

CODE
You put a block of shadowstone with "one" engraved on its surface into a dark
plinth.

You have gained a new honour!
Strands of black ribbon precede the arrival of Sirea, Keeper of the Shadow Crown
from the ether.

Sirea, Keeper of the Shadow Crown carefully perceives a dark plinth, her eyes
roving over it with dark intent.

Sirea, Keeper of the Shadow Crown says, "This is a most magnificent sight; a
splendour fit for Mother Night herself."

You see Sirea, Keeper of the Shadow Crown yell, "It is time, Daughters of Night!
Watch now for Mother Night's descent to this forest! Glory be to our Dark
Mistress!"

Dark flashes flicker chaotically over the trees of the forest, swirling
endlessly as if each is a separate entity with its own intelligence.

Coalescing suddenly, the darkness becomes overwhelming and blots the light from
overhead, casting all into the blessed shadow of Mother Night.

Silence consumes all for but a moment, until they draw in and coalesce down to
create the Throne of Darkness. In a pitch pillar of energy, a subtle presence
permeates the regal seat, its form barely visible.

Sirea, Keeper of the Shadow Crown says, "Excellent; Mother Night's descent is
complete, and a tie between Ethereal and this Manifestation has grown. Through
the Shadow Glass, one can tread right to the grasses of the Ethereal Glomdoring,
and back."

---

He aided Mother Night's descent onto the Throne of Darkness.

I just realized that any Mage novice can kick any other classes' novices, and they don't even have to be in the same area.

Fog + Firewalls. Lulz. dry.gif Not going to do that, but I find the idea entertaining.

I did that to Arix once. Just threw up like 25 firewalls in the marsh as a newb and burned him to death.

However, it's worth noting that a mage novice will get slaughtered if a bard or monk novice happens to be near enough to them to just walk over and beat the crap of them. The bard even will have reflections, so the firewalls won't hurt.

Just a liiiiiitle bit longer and I'm out of novicehood...

Aaaaaand... Your skill in Geomancy has risen to Transcendent.

Woo!
