Why would you customise an item before you know you have a sure way of keeping it permanent/resetting?

Bard instruments... Basically never decay, as long as you're a bard.

Anyway, he could keep it permanent by just putting it in a rack, I already offered him a statis-gem-protected rack to use for it, but he wanted to let it decay anyway. But this outcome is far, far cooler.

I was a Bard so it didn't decay that way, plus I had a shield rune on it. Both of those came off when I went Moondancer.

Finally getting around to getting a new key made for my chest. I open it up to find:
