Because Khessie isn't her little sister anymore, and that makes her really sad. She's still upset over it, even though Aeral helped her get the essence for it.

No, I get that. But, if your character hates Khessie, why would she care if someone breaks Khessie's heart?

Khessie is her sister. Deep down inside, Aeral cares so much for her. She's just really hurt right now. Khessie made herself older, and Aeral always looked at her as a little sister, and she's afraid that everything they said they'd do will change now that it's all different, and that scares her. So the hatred is just covering up a deeper hurt.
