You ask Queen Maeve of the Fae, "Dear Queen, will you have conference with me
today?"
Queen Maeve of the Fae says, "Yes?"
You clap your hands together merrily.
You say, "Thank you! I have questions, and I'm hoping you may know the answers."
You ask Queen Maeve of the Fae, "May I ask them?"
Queen Maeve of the Fae says, "I suppose."
Your mouth turns up as your face breaks into a smile.
You say, "Thank you."
You ask, "What do you know of faeling, Queen Maeve?"
You tilt your head and listen intently to Queen Maeve of the Fae.
Queen Maeve of the Fae says, "A cross between the fae and mortal shards...
though I understand that is common knowledge."
You nod your head emphatically.
Thoughtfully, you say, "It is. Perhaps I should be more specific.."
You ask, "Well. Actually, that statement along brings some confusion! Are
faeling half shards, or do they hold the same amount of shard as Elfen do of
Elfenehoala?"
Smiling indulgently, Queen Maeve of the Fae says, "Is the merian child of a
merian and a mugwump half of a shard of Mugwumpois?"
You chew on your lip thoughtfully.
Slowly, you say, "I don't... think... so..."
Queen Maeve of the Fae winks knowingly.
You laughingly say, "Okay... I guess I'll need to meditate on that a bit."
You say, "I do have more questions, though!"
Queen Maeve of the Fae raises an eyebrow questioningly.
You ask, "For example... who was the first Faeling? And who was their Elfen
parent? Who was their Fae parent? What type of Fae was their Fae parent?"
Queen Maeve of the Fae says, "I have not often made it a habit to memorise who
bedded who, resulting in what end... and many faeling babes were taken away by
their elfen parent, in any case. I fear I cannot give you the answer you seek."
You nod your head slowly in understanding.
You ask, "Would you know who may know the answers to those questions?"
Queen Maeve of the Fae shakes her head slightly.
Queen Maeve of the Fae says, "I am not sure any such records were kept."
You chew on your lip thoughtfully.
You frown and say, "That is unfortunate... I'm so curious..."
Queen Maeve of the Fae smiles indulgently at you.
Comprehension flashes across your face.
Her eyes lighting up, you say, "I know a question you would know the answer to
without a doubt, though!"
You ask Queen Maeve of the Fae, "How did you feel about the Fae mating with
Elfen? And how do you feel about Faeling?"
You tilt your head and listen intently to Queen Maeve of the Fae.
Queen Maeve of the Fae says, "If ever I felt strongly about such unions, the
reason has long left my mind. I can only watch faelings such as yourself now."
Your mouth turns up as your face breaks into a smile.
You say to Queen Maeve of the Fae, "Thank you so very much for taking conference
with me, Queen Maeve."
Queen Maeve of the Fae inclines her head politely to those around her.
You say, "I enjoyed talking to you, and am very grateful."
You curtsey respectfully before Queen Maeve of the Fae.
You smile and say, "Be well, Queen."
Queen Maeve of the Fae says, "Be well, faeling."

The issue with this response is that it only really applies if the Fae and Elfen have an Elfen baby. However, since Faelings are a completely different race... she dodged answering the question completely. Heh.

Pretty sure that was just the admin's way of saying "Stop asking us questions we cannot answer. Go away plz. ;_;"

I've never heard that before, who said that? I'm of the belief that faelings carry an elfen shard. I actually found Maeve's answer corresponding nicely with what I myself assumed, that no matter what faelings carry a shard of Elfenehoala.

Are you sure? After reading, my initial impression is that Maeve meant:
If merian + mugwump = merian, it isn't just half a shard of Mugwumpois, it is NO shard of Mugwumpois
And you believe this, then you must also accept that:
If fae + elfen = faeling, it isn't just half a shard of Elfenehoala, it is NO shard of Elfenehoala

Yeah, that's kinda what I figured too. I mean... they look like teeny Elfen, just with butterfly wings (or bat wings for the shadowy sort), and they speak Elfen too. Seems pretty obvious they've got Elfen shards to me.

Viravain, to Shikari.
Since Faelings aren't actually Elfen.

Not all of what?
If you mean that they don't all look like Elfen, well there's this from the helpfile: "they look like extremely diminutive elfen, even smaller than the furrikin, and they all have elaborate butterfly-like wings enabling them to fly" If you mean shadow faelings, well, there's this in the helpfile: "a curious breed of faeling, larger than others of their kind, with a dark complexion that seems to churn with shadows, more bat-like wings, and eyes that glow with a somber red fire." It says nothing though about them not looking like elfen anymore.

People tend to ignore some of that and have faeling who are nymph like or even pooka or slaugh like.

Well, that doesn't make it canon.
The real issue is that they are a completely different race from Elfen, whereas a Merian child of a Merian and a Mugwump is still a Merian (well, if they have some human in there too to allow the mixture). Given that, what Maeve said seems to be completely contrary to Noola's viewpoint.
Fionn2008-10-17 23:34:25
I rather like the idea of being Elfenehoala shards myself, I just don't see the support for it in what Maeve said. And the fact that our only IC sources on the subject are Viravain and Maeve doesn't make me feel safe in believing that their views aren't clouded by disillusionment or dementia in any way.

You have 2 types of faeling though. The really tiny, and the normal. Myrkr = FAEling, normal = FaeLING.

Even Myrkr's size thing isn't canon. The general size and appearance is listed in HELP FAELING, with Estarra's quoted "about a half-foot for each point of size" for reference.

Canon? Xenthos, we ARE cannon. If you can get your name into the event logs, then you are officially part of the mythos. They just have to do a little work and explain it away (Pixie-Faeling is the excuse here)
