So, Moiraine's parents up and left the Dekoven family to found their own. Being as they're her parents and all, Moiriane sets out to follow. As she did not automatically gain the new name, she rejected the Dekoven family and tried to recognise the new name. No go.

I promptly issued myself, only to be told that this is a result of conscious design. Moiraine cannot adopt her parents' last name.

Lol family system?

There are so many flaws in the current family system, and apparently a lot of it is coded in so it's really messy to change any one bit without a complete rewrite.

I think it would be nice for a complete rewrite all problems considered.
