I'm thinking about trying out the "sprinting" technique at the start. Sprinting being setting a timer and writing for 10 minutes, then stopping, taking a break, then doing it again until you hit 1700ish words. Apparently it works really well, and I'm a really slow starter when it comes to my writing--It takes a few sessions of writing for me before I can just go all out.
What are some things you guys are going to try to hit the mark?

That sounds like an interesting technique. I was thinking that I would try writing in bursts. Sort of like what you're saying only no timer. I was planning on starting to write and just not stopping until I either had to for some reason or ran out of juice. Then I'd stop and take a break for a few hours and then doing it again. I was gonna do that twice a day at least (more if inspiration struck or something). I figured some days I'd get a lot accomplished and others not as much, but everyday would get something written.
The timer idea sounds very structured though, which might be very helpful for some folks!

I really should do this, I really do need to write more.
You really should!

Another thing, Noola, you might think about, is checking your Region lounge for some local Write-Ins. My area has one scheduled for every Sunday of the month, and I think that could also be a pretty good motivator. That and meeting some new people is never a bad reward either.

Unfortunately, Little Rock doesn't have it's own region. I had to settle for United States :: Arkansas :: Elsewhere. There are several Arkansas Regions, but the state capital doesn't have its own? Crazy.
There is a Little Rock thread, but it looks like there's no concrete plans for anything yet. My transportation problems will prolly mean I won't be able to make many write-ins anyway. But Saran made us a nifty chat room, so we can have write-ins of our own anyway.

Well, I am! Right now! Come chat! I'm at work though, so if I suddenly don't reply for a bit, that's why.

Did. Came up with the plot while we were discussing particle collisions in nuclear physics.

Man, some of the "advice" and "help" they give on those forums is ridiculous. Telling them to refer to characters by first middle and last names every single time just to pad their word count and stuff. Like.. wtf? I know the point of the thing is just to write.. but I don't think blatantly cheating can be construed as good things to have stickied.

Yeah, that's a bit retarded.

Ok, I've kind of come up with a couple of ideas for who the Goddess in my story is going to be. Tell me which one you like better.
The Goddess in the story won't go by any recognized name because she's actually the Goddess behind several different deities. She's been called Ishtar, Inanna, Astarte, Aphrodite and Venus among others, all dealing with the same general aspects; love, lust, fertility, war, creativity, beauty. Now that's she's planning her come-back, she's going by a new name in a new place and she's picked the US cause it's the new Rome and we all know how the Romans spread their Gods around.
Ooooor…. I really like the minor Egyptian Goddess Meret. She was basically a token wife for the God Hapy, though the youth and lower classes of ancient Egypt associated her with dancing, music, and rejoicing. Worshiping her was frowned upon by the upper classes because she was seen as frivolous and stuff (in fact, the upper classes actually gave Hapy different, more respectable, wives! ). I think I can work with that to make an interesting case for why she'd want to try to regain her godhood, only this time making it into the major leagues.

Noola, I hope you're prepared for all the religious fight-back that would happen if this was actually going on. I wonder if you'll include that in your story.
If you did, it'd make it a more realistic read, in my opinion.

Well sure! I even have an interesting twist on it with my wealthy socialite sub-plot. (Thanks again S.A.W.! ) Though, at first at least, folks will mostly think she's just some crackpot. I mean, really. Wouldn't you?
Anyway, which Goddess idea do you like better?
