Plot Points:

MC is introduced, Charlotte "Charlie" Mast, living on the streets.

Story opens on the anniversary of the disappearance of Charlie's 9-year old little brother, Wesley. Charlie left everything after he went missing, blaming his mother and her drinking and drugs. Mother swears she's clean after everything that has happened, but Charlie refuses to look back.

Charlie starts having incredibly vivid dreams while on drugs.

Charlie catches glimpses of her brother while high and on the brink of sleep or waking.

Charlie tries to avoid dreaming by doing even harder drugs, which only causes her dreams to become even more lucid.

Charlie sees a girl she knows from the streets in the Other City, but she went missing a few weeks prior.

Charlie starts to find odd things near her when she wakes up from her dreams.

Charlie tests things, controlling her environment and finding out that things are coming out of her dreams.

Charlie investigates a bit more into the missing girl's situation.

Charlie sets an alarm clock and races to find the missing girl in the Other City.

Charlie finds the missing girl and manages to grab onto her just as her alarm goes off and wakes her up.

Charlie wakes to find the girl unconscious on the floor next to her "bed", wrist still firmly gripped in her hand.

Charlie becomes obsessed with finding her brother in the Other City.

Charlie meets a man named Ozzy during a trip to the Other City who is a "native" and offers to help her.

Charlie pursued by Shadow Men through the real world.

Charlie frees Ozzy from the Other City in exchange for information leading to her brother.

Charlie is chased again by Shadow Men but manages to make it to a location that Ozzy tells her about that he says is protected from them.

Ian Matas comes to her, speaking to her from outside the boundary. He is rich and influential buisnessman within the City, and also sits at the head of an organization (known at the Circle of Progress) that actively opposes those behind the creation of the Other City.

Ian attempts to recruit Charlie into helping the Circle put an end to the Other City before it is too late. He explains that people all over the City are being taken by the Muse and her cohorts, her main Lieutenant being Ozzy himself, who she let loose into the waking world. Ian explains that the stolen people are being used as anchor points to pull the two Cities together.

Charlie learns that when she is awake, Ozzy is free to roam the real world, but when she is asleep she drags him back with her. Ian asks for her cooperation to put her into a coma, trapping both her and Ozzy in the Other City until such a time as they can undo the safeguards put in place to protect the Other City.

Charlie refuses, saying that she won't stop until she saves her brother. Ian explains that Ozzy and those he serves will never let that happen, and that by helping the Circle, he gives his word that her brother will be safe.

Charlie agrees and emerges from the haven to meet Ian face to face. He escorts her away to be put into a coma.

Charlie finds herself back in the Other City within what seems to be an abandon shopping mall that was still under construction. She hears her brother calling her name now, only to find that waking up is now totally out of her control.

Charlie locates her brother in the mall when things turn worse, Ozzy enters the scene, swearing to kill Wesley and make her sacrifice worth nothing.

Charlie and Wesley find themselves scrambling for their lives through the mall, hunted by not just Ozzy but also a horde of other nightmarish creatures, including a twisted incarnation of their own mother.

In the end, they are run out of places to run and hide and end up face to face with Ozzy.

Ozzy prepares to kill Wesley when Charlie lashes out, both in both the dream and real worlds, snapping out of her coma with her brother in her arms.

Charlie inadvertantly frees not just Ozzy again, however, but also the very monsters that hunted them through their nightmare.

Charlie and Wesley manage to escape in the confusion caused, as agents of the Circle fight a losing battle to restrain the sudden flood of creatures.

Charlie takes Wesley back home to find that their real mother and the nightmare of their mother have blurred together.

Charlie hides Wesley and tells him not to come out until he knows its safe, but that she'll make sure he knows.

Charlie runs off to the top of their apartment building and is confronted by Ozzy once more.

Ozzy tries to convince her that its not too late for her to help them, that she could be a great asset and have everything she ever wanted.

Charlie attempts to kill herself by jumping off of the building but is pulled back by Ozzy who immediately drives a knife into her, delivering a fatal blow.

Charlie watches with a small smile on her face as the other creatures on the roof with Ozzy immediately melt away and Ozzy begins to flicker and fade, however, from where her own blood has spilled onto him he begins to solidify again.

Ozzy smears a streak of blood across his cheek with a snear and then lets her go, causing her to fall to the ground half a dozen stories below.
