I am poor. I can't buy a computer, so I have this one that I got for free. -shrug- If I could, I'd be using a Mac. Beggars cannot be choosers, sadly. Microsoft distributes faulty programs and OS that are riddled with safety risks. I refuse to -buy- from a company that repeatedly releases faulty products.

Beggars can be choosers, actually. In this case, beggars get quite a nice choice. You could have Linux.

But I definitely prefer Windows to a Mac. I like having a computer I can actually do things on. Mac's are pretty, and that's about it.

I was born using Windows, and I will DIE using Windows. If you know how to use XP safely, then it works fine. In the 3 years since I last reinstalled windows(It crashed because I was absolutely and completely irresponsible with my downloads and security, etc), I have had very few problems. I am running a 1.6 ghz P4 processor and 1 GB of RAM, on a Dell laptop built back when XP first came out, and I'm doing great. I use Ad-Aware/Spybot/Defender, and they do a pretty good job of keeping me running.

This confuses me,

A regular Television has a resolution of about 400X600, and HDtv has a resolution of about 1080X720 or so. Why isn't t comparable? Games on the PS3 are going to be designed around a HD resolution, not a standard resolution.

They'll look uglier, I'm guessing, but frankly though I've been impressed in a good way with some of the top-end PS2 games graphically, I've never been really bothered by the lower-end ones unless it's a case of glitching or blatant N64-level polygonalisation.

Neither of those lists you provided look awesome, probably 'cause I haven't heard of most of 'em though, no brands I remember. I guess I'll have another browse through later.

EDIT: And I'd still like information on the exact reverse-compatibility situation with both PS3 and 360 if anyone has it. Also the region-free status of both.

Don't know about regional stuff, but the compatibility issue is pretty simple. They realized they could continue selling older platforms if they stopped letting the new ones play all the old games, so they stopped letting the new ones play all the old games.

Oh, so you'd rather pay 50% more for the same capabilities that can't interface with 90% of the rest of the computers in the world (unless you buy windows for your mac, making it even more expensive)?

The more popular games (and a lot more) from the xbox are able to be run on the 360, but I'm fairly sure you have to download something to do it. The download is free, and you just need a silver membership (the free one) to do it, so its not a big deal.

ME made me a ton of money when I was younger. Working in a mom and pop computer shop in a small town and everyone got their new E-machine or Gateway generic piece of garbage pre-loaded with ME. Oh the good ol' days.

There aren't *widely known* security holes in macs because no one gives a rat's ass about mac. When you step into a high dollar server room, it's not running on Leopard. People who hound security loopholes want to do the most damage possible and you don't achieve that by developing viruses and exploiting security loopholes that only exist in opium dens and Starbucks. or Starbucks' Opium Dens, coming soon.

I made my decision a long time ago. I grew up with playstation and went with the PS3. Sure there weren't many release day games but I was patient and got to play some of the gems. RFOM was one of them in the early days, but I was looking and waiting for MGS4. When it came out I was one happy happy guy. The newest game i'm looking forward to is Little Big Planet which is seeming to be one hell of a game
