PS3 or Xbox 360?

I haven't tried oblivion yet, really don't plan to.

Regarding Morrowind... As much as I hate to say this, because I pretty much hate how the game mechanics and system worked, I enjoyed being able to explore the world, I enjoyed getting lost or disctracted from my goal by that tempting cave that just happens to be there finding myself thinking, "Now what could they possibly be hiding in there...," I enjoyed being able to silently kill that one citizen who just wouldn't leave so I could break into houses unnoticed.

I've cheated everytime I've loaded the game up, boosting nearly all my stats to godly levels, but I've yet to have beat the game, there's just so much to explore and do.

As for MODS, I only downloaded world retextures, Better Faces, and Better Bodies, which I recommend to be a minimum if you download anything. The elder scroll team may have some good programers, but I really don't like their Artist and 3-D modeling crew.

No, Blizzard has good programmers, Bethesda only has good-enough-to-pull-it-off programmers.

Get all of the top rated mods from planter elder scrolls. Can't remember them off the top of my head, but there is a huge retexture pack and a huge face replacer pack, and a "better bodies" thing you'll want to get. Other than that, you can just get things for flavor.

I didn't mind the levelling system (I never bothered to get the mod to 'fix' it), I was only saying that towards people who were complaining about it. Also, as you said, I just stood in one place and cast really cheap spells and leveled up insanely fast. XD

But I mean, that sort of makes IC sense, if you're standing there training. ohmy.gif

Thanks, I couldn't find the huge retexture or face replacer pack, only small ones. Do you remember the name of it at all?

I think this is the stuff you want:

There are other great face packs on planetelderscrolls, though. Look for ones made by a guy named Westly. They add a ton of good options for your starting face.

great thanks

EDIT: Thanks again, those textures really make it nicer

Ok, I discovered the drawback to the PS3 advantage of being able to import games.

My TV can't display NTSC properly so it comes out with huge lines and no colour. OTL.

Sucky, probably a good thing I decided to go the other way. My tv is old. sad.gif

Shiri needs to stop playing PS3 and help us claim more Domoths. sad.gif
Shiri2008-11-01 01:53:59
Yeah, as soon as I get out of these 2+hr CGI sequences in MGS4.
Unknown2008-11-01 03:43:40
hrm, I wonder if an HDTV will play either region... and I didn't know ps3 games had the NTSC or PAL formats encoded on them.

Nor did I, but I can't find any other obvious explanation for European release MGS4 working perfectly and American release Disgaea 3 coming out in black and white.

HDTV -should- play either region but that would require me spending vast amounts of money on a new TV (or maybe a HD monitor, those would work right?) which I just can't justify after £300 on a PS3.

So, I guess I'll just have to hope the good games come out in Europe, for the time being.

I've actually not seen an HD monitor to see if it takes a special connector or not. My Visio tele took VGA so I've just been hooking my tower up to it, which I wish I had done before starting Mega Man Legends 2 on the PS3.

Actually, my PS3 came with a HDI cable explicitly for connecting to HDTVs (though I dunno about monitors.) Funnily enough it -didn't- come with what I'd actually need to connect it to my TV, though it had some SCART thing that worked on another TV we used to have but I think left in Wales for my parents.

Fortunately my old PS2 logic 3 adaptor still works for the PS3.

On that note, does anyone have an HD monitor and know if they have the same kind of HD cable as a TV would? Only those monitors are a lot cheaper than your average HDTV (no that it'll matter for a long time, but still.)
Stangmar2008-11-01 06:33:09
Psh, HDTV is cheap. We got ours for the low low low price of $1700 + tax.
Of course, it's 65"

I never used it much, my folks bought it just months before I moved out. sad.gif

Shiri2008-11-01 10:23:26
That wouldn't even fit in my frickin' room. Anything larger than about 20" won't even go on the stand.

EDIT: And an LCD monitor of that size is still like £140-200. And I'm not even certain if that counts, anyone know? Do you need a TV?
Desitrus2008-11-01 19:19:57
Even though this is just the tip of the iceberg:

Some of you apparently need some learnin!

I still think Shiri made a mistake by choosing a PS3 over a 360. Albeit a small one.

Another thing I saw, someone did the math and figured out since release of each of the systems, they calculated the average number of games rated above 80 that came out per month or some such. Xbox 360 was like 3.3 games rated over 80 per month since release, PS3 was like 2.4 or so, and Wii was like 1.5. Poor Wii, has some amazing first party titles, but there really isn't much games for it that appeal to the press or the more serious gamers.

Game-wise I think we'll see, but region free (once the damn colour thing is factored in), better exclusive selection (for now) and lack of use I have for the interwebs part all seem to make the PS3 more worth it.

One minor niggle though: I prefer the PS3 controllers to the Xbox ones, but I prefer the PS2 ones to the PS3. Why did they screw with the back shoulder buttons?

Obviously in order to screw with your mind. dazed.gif
