My wyvern's not fat mad.gif

There, there. I'm sure you can get a proper fat one instead of a half-assed fat "heavy" one if you wish hard enough on your 2nd attempt!
Gwylifar2008-11-14 14:49:18
Or just a big-boned one.

A huge, dun mare with a grey tail
This mare has a huge frame, with sleek muscles denoting speed and grace whenever she moves. She occasionally tosses her luxurious mane as she whinnies and snorts, and her brown eyes blink slowly, taking in the world. Her sleek coat is coloured dun, with a grey tail sprouting proudly from her body. Blinking occasionally and swishing her tail, she has the forebearing look of a creature waiting for something interesting to happen.

A slim, grey speckled stallion with a braided tail
This slim stallion is a strong, powerful creature, and his well-defined muscles gleam beneath a grey speckled coat. His mane is slightly tangled from his wild runs, and his tail swishes incessantly as his brown eyes peer around dolefully. He lets out an occasional snort as he paws at the ground, throwing his head back with inherent nobility, and his body is graced with a braided tail.

A huge, grey stallion with a cropped mane

His mane is slightly tangled from his wild runs, and his tail swishes incessantly as his brown eyes blink slowly. Since I have heard of some people being surprised at the costs of mammoths, there is a little formula we use to price beasts based on the beast's inherent abilities. Basically the more inherent trains of a beast, the more the beast will cost on an exponential basis. We have no plans to have beasts go over 200 trains in inherent abilities (i.e., mammoth) which costs 306k gold--at that point you may as well buy a pet! Eventually, we'll like a range of beasts but as you can imagine, setting up beasts is an exhausting process.

As an aside, what do you think of a special reagent that you could buy for 3 credits that would "reroll" how the beast looks? It'd still be based on the beast's diet and it's obvious a crapshoot insofar that you may get something even worse than you have presently--but my thought is that, especially for the expensive beasts, it may be worth it to rather than repurchasing a new one or being stuck with a beast you aren't happy with. Obviously, it wouldn't be worth it for horses, but maybe for wyverns and mammoths. (Haven't decided whether we'd do this or not, so post your thoughts pros and cons, and if you'd consider it.)

I'd buy, especially if my wyvern turns out... weird.

Even for horses it may be worth it though, if you do not want to spend the -time- retraining etc.
Aison2008-11-17 20:39:50
I didn't find 306k that bad of a price, to be honest... set 50k aside every time you get it and you'll have the gold for one in no time. Plus the inherent ability to trample is pretty amazing.

I think I would, yes- even for a horse, if I'd invested a lot of time in training it. It doesn't take long to get enough gold to buy up a few credits, and people could (theoretically) keep trying until they got something they liked.

The down side, of course, is that the in-game credit prices would soar yet again, and people would probably do less buying/selling/trading of their beasts to get more desirable traits.

Ohh, I love this. I would definitely do this for my original horse, who turned out to be "dun with dun wings," which is painfully boring. Though Raiha is definitely attached to him, being the first, and all, which is really the only reason I haven't gotten rid of him. Quite a bit of time and thought was invested into getting his spirit-y skills. So yes! I love this idea! In fact I would probably get hooked. I think the price is reasonable, because all things considered (original price, food, reagents, stable fees), it's a good deal as opposed to starting anew with another beast.

-+- Pros -+-

1. Reset your beast's looks!

-+- Cons -+-

1. It's 3 credits, and for people who buy credits IG, that's about 21,000 gp.
2. It's completely random, as you've said.

-+- Suggestions -+-

1. Make it 1 credit to randomize part of your beast's description. Example being, 1 credit to randomize the prefix (towering, fat, heavy, what have you) or whatever is used to make the beast that way. If I'm correct, meats/oats, fruits/eggs, and veggies/fish each affect something, so, maybe, 1 credit to randomize whatever they affect? Or just a 1 credit randomizing reagent to randomize wings.

That's all I've got to offer on it.

1. 1-3 credits to randomize a single portion of the description and 3-5 to randomize the entire description would be more useful overall, I believe.

2. Release camels as the next beast please! Then possibly boars. Camels could have Battle and, say, Kicking. Boars would obviously have Battle and Aggressive.

As long as it's noted that camels > boars.

I think the greater problem here is for this to undermine the potential in beast trade. I'd be happy either way.

I kind of wish that you can use abilities beasts have even if you didn't train far enough to learn them, so you could just sell uberbeasts to people.

Zarquan, go fail yourself. tongue.gif

Anyway...

This mammoth shakes her short wiry hair, glancing about herself with intelligent
eyes. Curving out from each side of her mouth are two smooth tusks. The enormous
creature's enormous ears twitches and flaps, perhaps cooling the her enormous
elephantine body. She stomps about, letting her enormous head swing back and
forth, looking for something to eat.
A young female mammoth with enormous ears is a humble-looking creature.
She weighs about 2187 pounds.
Her feedbag is nearly empty! She is emaciated and looks unhealthy.
She is loyal to Autumnal Spinner Myrkr Inseira.
A young female mammoth with enormous ears is holding:
Nothing.
