Okay, I'm not going to go into the disadvantages of being a demigod in the process of claiming Domoths. Instead, I'll address the actual claiming itself.
Demigods can hold onto Domoths for 75 days. At the current crown bonus, that is a total of 750000 essence for holding the crown for the entire time. However, for a demigod to claim a crown in stage three, it takes 350 essence/second. Being very generous and assuming you can get to the Domotheos instantly, this is 630000 essence drain. So, demigods get 120k if you just take into account the drain of ascending the throne at crown level. Throw in a death (50k base + 100k phoenix) and the demigod is already at an essence loss. Now, add the potential for multiple deaths, the drain endured for stage one and three for sceptre, orb AND crown, and I am sure the demigod will be at a great loss as far as essence is concerned. I believe this needs fixing. Putting essence from crowns back to 25k, and having them not stack (ie 3 crowns = 1 crown in terms of essence gain) would go a long way.
This also wouldn't as much of a problem if I go for Vernal Ascendance. OH WAIT. I'm a demigod. I can't.

I think it's -intended- to be an essence sink. You also didn't count the kills from the mobs on the way.
Rika2008-11-01 04:48:24
The problem is it's such a huge essence sink, it makes you wonder if it is really worth it.

This is like the 7th thread on demigods and domoths.
I agree, the hit to the essence gain via crowns while making the days stay the same is rough.

But didn't you start five of the last six?

No, I didn't.

IMO... you're gaining a bonus for whatever... it should be a loss.
It should not be something you be like 'Well, lets do this so I can get more essence'.....

Hey now, that's crazy talk. People shouldn't be forced to lose their essence in Domoths.
oh... wait... They aren't forced... Domoths is completely optional.

And you know this has as much validity as saying people aren't forced to kill Norchatine every hour to keep the TBC down.
Shiri2008-11-01 10:42:48
Not quite. It's a lot easier to defend domoths as optional because they aren't active detriments to your normal activity. Benefit-only.

I suppose you could consider Domoths as a kind of karmatic blessing for Organizations you're loyal to. In which case, it makes sense that unless you do a perfect run, ie no deaths, you do end up losing essence.
From an RP perspective, it seems like the correct way to go about things. While the loss appears considerable, there's a lot of benefit going towards the organizations you grant the boon to. This gives Vernal Demigods have a kind of... responsibility or if you would rather a means of paying back the commune/city the one million power which would supposedly be in exchange for 'decades of loyal service' or whatever other reason one might have to raise an Ascendant. In addition, you're kind of messing with the natural weave of things - Lesser Blessing of Harmony essentially makes dying much more affordable in terms of experience cost. One tier up, you get an extra 15% dross power. Although most combatants won't see much use for it since most will stock over 50% in reserves, people who are just starting will be able to use this to their advantage.
I suppose you do feel that it is unfair then that one person is carrying the burden for the benefit of so many people, but then again you usually have to go up as a team and if you do want to minimize the loss, which you've established comes from death, you just need to either bring a bigger party, which shouldn't be troublesome on your side, or just be more coordinated with the typical party size you have now.
An alternative solution to this problem may be allowing Avatars to have a diminished essence loss since they're in some sense bound to their God/Goddess.

However, it is only an essence sink for demigods, not for ascendants.
Now, that wouldn't matter at all if demigods had anything else going for them. But instead they are just the nerfed version of ascendants. I couldn't care less for domoths, but I do think demigods could be made a bit less generic, a bit less like ascendants.
Vashner2008-11-22 20:12:18
What do you suggest? I'm not really sure where else Demigods can go to be less like Ascendants, and looking at how Magnagora has not a single ascendant yet functions pretty much normally, it seems to me that Ascendants are just unnecessary expenses for the city/commune in terms of power.
