Buy a clan?

I was thinking about it. Something like The Grand Cenobites-- though I think there is no way I could pull this off without Krackenor's IC consent.

Actually, I was thinking of buying a clan at one point.

But anyway, I think it would be an interesting idea that you could probably have alot of fun with.

What bonuses does a cult have anyways?
Unknown2008-11-05 11:45:15
Absolutely nothing, it's more rp, even then it's not worth it.
Shiri2008-11-05 12:05:26
You can rescue, tierstone-scry, guild rite and I think herofete members of your cult (who have to be members of your order.) You have to pay a daily/monthly (?) essence cost for each one, though. Apparently Ilyarin's collapsed from that (just what someone told me, may be wrong on the last fact.)

Did it really?

Introspection - Window on cult members
Intervention - Champion Rescue for cult members
Prospicience - Tierstone scry cult members
DivineSupper - Herofete cult members
Portal - Grove gate/Mage Portal for anyone who knows what those are - cult members
Presence - Charisma boost for all cult members in the same room as you
Glory - Guild Rite cult members

All that for the cost 50 million essence from the god, 10 million essence from you, whatever hoops your god makes you jump through as well to get the cult, you can only have cult members that are members of your own Order. You lose personal essence for each cult member you have each game month. If you leave the Order you obviously lose the cult, if the god disbands the order you lose the cult.

Edit: A portion of essence offered to the god from your cult members is also tithed to you. Which means if you are in an Order where almost nobody offers don't expect much for essence.
Shiri2008-11-05 13:53:23
Oh yeah, I forgot the grove gate (which is same-plane only and stopped by monoliths on either end)
Gregori2008-11-05 14:04:25
Really, I wouldn't mind the fact the skills are just weak copies of numerous other things if it wasn't for the fact you are limited to a Cult of a few people who will probably do very little as they do very little in the Order they are in to begin with. Especially knowing that there are people not in the Order that would want to be in a Cult and would do things. Which, incidentally, eventually helps the God anyways - more people offering to the God, learning about the God, possibly joining the Order itself as a step up from the Cult who is tied to the Order.

This is really only a bonus, any Ascendant worth a penny will be able to imbue the cult with enough essence to use whatever he/she wants.

And, my cult is still functioning I just don't play enough at the moment to be able to upkeep it.

I wasn't calling it a negative, I was listing it as a factual comment about Cults. Whether the Ascendant can get their own essence or not doesn't change that fact.
Ilyarin2008-11-05 14:18:23
Well, you were implying that if the Order doesn't offer much then the Ascendant doesn't have much cult essence to play with, which isn't true.

No I was stating if the Order doesn't offer much don't expect much essence from tithes. Which is true.
Ilyarin2008-11-05 14:28:06
Alright, well that's not how I interpreted it! There's no need for an argument. smile.gif Smiles and joy please!
Arin2008-11-05 18:54:39
*Fanatical Dancing* I've got the joy joy joy joy down in the cult!

EDIT: Oops had too much joy. Removing one joy now!

3. It causes a Cult to be nothing more than a mini-me of the Divine the Cult is based in.

That's the point and the way I think it should be. You're a franchise, not a new chain. You're just a lieutenant not a deity.
Arin2008-11-05 19:47:49
I don't see why non-Order members can't join a cult.

I know we've all been over the "This is Lusternia, not the real world" rant, but think about the cults in our world. They're usually fanatical, believes that they are following the deity of the mainstream religion but the mainstream religion may not always recognise them as an arm of their own. The cult usually would have different belief system, with different doctrine and dogma.

Except you are not a franchise. Franchises are branches out of a head office. You are told "you are in the same office and you can only hire people that already work in this office"

Edit::

Calling it a franchise in it's current state is like:

McDonald's head office giving a franchise license to someone and saying "Ok go forth, build your McDonalds, but! you may only serve the customers that are already buying from our main location. You can't ever serve new customers. In fact you can't even let them in the door!"

Um.

According to the ABs, this is incorrect.

No essence is tithed to you. It is instead tithed to the "cult essence pool" (something completely separate). It is the cult essence pool that Cult Powers draw from, instead of personal.

"Once formed, a Cult is a sub-sect within the Divine Order which has a pool of essence that is distinct from your own, which may be drawn upon to perform rituals that will benefit yourself and your Cult Cult members. When members of the Cult offer at shrines to the Elder God, a portion of the essence will be tithed to your Cult's essence pool."

Your Cult members cannot offer essence directly to you.
