Ah, this makes me all nostalgic. Some things never change! This particular discussion is even older than Nerf Trueheal.

Shall we go there? suspicious.gif

Not so much.

I bet some people are thinking of Narsrim, but Narsrim was far from the first to bring this question up, over and over and over.

Yeah, you can go back to the very very early posts on these forums (some of the beginning Idiots! threads) for examples from before Glomdoring even existed.

Ah. Sorry, I didn't mean to resurrect old arguments. It's just my opinion.

Alts are all a matter of taste. When I started, I just made a whole slew of characters and went through alts like sand running through an hourglass, right up until I settled on one character. I still have a few and make them from time to time for a different flavour or to get out of my current rut.

Alts can't really be a "waste" to you personally unless you like all your accomplishments and efforts kept in a neat, tidy stack (which means one character), or if you're far more interested in playing with skills/pvp (credit and time investments) than roleplay (which can be as easy as making it up as you go along). I can understand how alts seem like a waste to other folks, though, especially novice teachers. People making alts really should let tutors know they are "smart kids" so they can do other things if they want, but at the same time I don't think you need to give them the cold shoulder either. Some of the most entertaining interactions I've had were conversations with player tutors who obviously realized I was a "smart kid" but stuck around anyways to have fun and play along.

Just make sure your alts are separate people, and all is well.

Oh, it's nothing to apologize for, it's just a perennial favorite, that's all. Perennial in the sense of renewing itself through the seasons.

If someone kills collegium novices, or quest denizens, or desecrates holy sites, or runs around drunk in public while waving their naughty bits at people, and isn't punished, it's assumed that their orgs think it's just dandy.

That's why we send all of ours to Celest.

Break the cycle. Send them to Glom, the wagging dirtybits may generate more people.

Please don't... not after the issues caused by descriptions recently. As fun as it might be to imagine Amarysse suddenly snapping and making novices bleed from the ears, it would really sort of undermine the RP I've built up for her. unsure.gif

Seventeen years is an awfully long time...

... and even then, it requires more than one person being around at any given time. While somehow managing to not get ostracized...

Too bad about Prota, perhaps he could have been the savior of Glomdoring.
Harkux2008-11-17 11:22:48
Playing alts teaches me a lot of things.

Por exampla, I wish I had never gotten Harkux Glomdoring-enemied and moved her there instead of making an alt. Alas, I'll never pay off those enemy fees, and thus made my little Gloomy.

=D!

Urazial2008-11-17 18:43:56
Getting unenemied to Glom is much cheaper and quicker than you might think. wink.gif

But then again, I like your little alt, so nevermind!
Unknown2008-12-09 23:07:40
I only make alts when the atmosphere of the city/commune my main is in gets insufferable. Like, when nobody my character knows is about, and I the player get bored. However, these alts generally don't last more than three hours.

The problem with making a character, and going through the newbie stuff on your own, is that it's almost like "alt alert" and established players tend to ignore you. Also, if you don't get to know your novice aid, you have almost no 'in' to the RP. However, established players have a habit of ignoring novices/anybody under the age of 30 anyways. Not that I'm complaining. I totally understand not wanting to rp a friendship/enemy(ship?)/relationship with somebody who isn't going to stick with the game.

I have no alts. Especially not over there. ====>

I don't see much point in it though. Like Aison, I see any time invested, or credits for that matter, in an alt as a waste of resources. One of them WILL be played, the other will not. There is no middle ground with me.

I make alts all the time, but I've only bought credits on three. Shaddus, and my two others.

Anyone else is just extra, to try out stuff.
