Yeah Obama allready won, so feel free to stay home and don't vote!
(unless you want to vote for McCain, he needs your sympathy votes) *snicker*
I think more news outlets should be stating such obvious facts.

There's still a chance for McCain to win, or for this election to end in a tie between the two.

So if the proposition passes, then there'll be a law banning gay unions between one man and one woman?
Obviously they have that vote to prevent what happened in California, where the law was passed but deemed unconstitutional.

Either the first black president, or the first female vice president. One would be more historic than the other but both would be historic.
In American history, Blacks have always achieved the historical milestone before women did.
It would have been nice for that historical trend to be broken for once. (but thank god it didn't, I couldn't handle a bush, clinton, bush, clinton textbook)

Nope, none at all. Obama is the clear winner, so people should just stay home unless they want to give McCain some pointless sympathy votes, just for the sake of it!

If the Democrats elected Hillary, this would've been a completely different election. You'd see Red everywhere.
Oh, and as an added note..
I'm voting McCain, but I'm the closest thing to a Democratic Independent there is.. Just see things more clearly. The FBI does that, sadly. As does doing a tour in Iraq.

I'm one of those undecided voters... even though I allready voted. Seriously.
I want Obama to win, because I think the nation needs him to.
I want McCain to win, because I think he'll reform the nation better.
I voted for McCain, cause in California, there are too many Obama votes.
However, for my 2004 prediction of a new political party becoming dominate in 2012 to come true, I'm not sure what needs to happen.

It's called the death of the Electoral College system, which seriously needs to happen. It makes the popular vote moot.
However, since only the Democrats and Republicans have anything to lose from getting rid of the Electoral College system, and only they have the power to get rid of it.. We can expect for the Green party, Independent Party, and all those names that you don't even know on that ballot to collect dust for a long time. Poor Ralph Nader.
Daganev2008-11-04 20:05:43
I really don't want the popular vote to be the only vote that matters.
If all we did was the popular vote, then only the desires of California, Texas, NY , FLorida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio would matter. Those states combined, have more population than all the other states combined.
edit: ignore the map,
Here is a better listing:

Beats two parties that no one wants around keeping power!
Besides, we could just have another Civil War and have the states fight amongst boundary lines..
Or Americans will just be too lazy to go to a Civil War, and.. we'll let the results of Monday Night Wrestling choose who has the bigger state.

I'd vote for him if I could, I really liked the cheap dollar. :>
They say Obama may be overestimated because people declare their vote for him when being asked, but in reality they actually have issues with voting for a black guy. Minor closet racism cases, something like that, I wonder how true is that.
One thing I do not understand is why your election system is so complicated instead of being a simple sum of votes.

I think it's cause people worry about state influence instead of it being an individual person's vote that matters. Personally, I think the electoral college is retarded. But then, I don't care so much about states. Might be because I've lived in so many different ones that I'm not particularly attached to any particular one.

That smaller states actually have a purpose when electing a President. Since the larger states outnumber the populations of the smaller ones combined, so they would single handedly choose the President. It just allows the smaller states to have the same amount of voice as the others. However, at the same time, it destroys any chance of a third party gaining political power.

It balances representation based on population/land/resources.
The places with the most natural resources would in theory also have lower populations.
It also helps prevent complete mob rule (in theory, because the electoral college, could decide in January to vote for people other than what the populous voted for, if something comes up between Nov and Jan, or if they just decide to do that.)
Daganev2008-11-04 20:29:46
Also, America is actually very balkanized, but we only stay united because of the system we have. You can see more and more how different various people in various states feel about various issues.
I don't think the electoral college system prevents a third party from getting power. It just prevents there being 3 powerful parties. Which two parties exist as the major parties, has changed (I think 4 times) since the country was founded. And I think in 2012, its going to change again.

Neither McCain or Obama is evil.
Sarah Palin, maybe.

Probably because of how the election system works. People that do not do backroom politics, take bribes, have hidden agendas for big corporations or political influencial people are not even able to become a candidate, especially not for the two big parties. (why are third parties so impossible anyway)
Amarysse2008-11-04 20:40:12
Sadly, when I asked most of the people I knew why they were voting for their particular candidate (prior to election day), I generally got blank stares, or ridiculous answers like... "Because she is totally bangable." "Because he was in Vietnam, like me." "Because he's black." "Because I'm a Democrat/Republican." Not a single one of them could refer to any particular issue their candidate supported or opposed. It was really pretty demoralizing. We all have the right to make our own decisions, of course, but is it really too much to ask that people educate themselves about their options in such an important election? Is image really so much more important?
I'm pretty sure I already know the answer, but it just seems as if people don't realize how serious the situation is, in the U.S. and globally, and they just toss out their vote on a whim.
