Actually, this client is quite neat. The only problems I see are the speed and the size.

Here's what I didn't like so far:
-I was unable to highlight more than on line at a time.
-When I tried scrolling the client window, it scrolled the whole browser window instead.
-The client window was too small, needs to be resizeable
-Map does not work. It showed a little man in a grey box with no other information at all. And before you say it, I was on Prime next to the Moonhart, which I believe is mapped.
-That grey background is annoying, but I probably just didn't see where to change it.
-I was unable to give the editor a try due to the highlighting issue. PLEASE FIX THE HIGHLIGHTING ISSUE.

I will post more if i can convince myself to give it another try at a later time.

Minor gripe, but there also seems to be no way of closing the client once it's opened, in spite of the page still existing behind it.
Unknown2008-11-06 12:02:29
Pretty sure the client is embedded in the page itself, so it's not really a page behind it, it's more a page around it.

The blank map issue is an issue with Lusternia, not the client. A couple of areas just don't load for some reason. (I was messing around with the PHP script to see what other maps I could see. Hoping to use them in MUSHclient one day.)

It definitely needs to be bigger. Can't see enough text to read a whole news post or see all my skills. I like full screen! That map window needs a place to live, too. Covering up the other things you need to see is unacceptable.

Try double-clicking the map a few times, that fixed it for me. Although it also got rid of the fancy background and made it white with gridlines.

It's fast and the interface looks good. Thumbs up for me!. vote.gif

I was in the shops in glomdoring, and the map was working fine for me.

YOu can't click on the map and have it do anything, you can only see it update when you move around. IT won't auto move or do path finding or anything fancy.

But my real question is how fast are the triggers, and can it handle prompt based triggers for autosippers?

topic pinned so peole can find the client again.

QUESTION

Does this client work if telnet is disabled? (I somehow doubt it but I'm asking anyhow. Darn work.)

It should. Try it?

I am a huge supporter if Flash and Flex development for browser based applications and .air applications. This is a great start to what I hope will be a great proprietary client. As long as development keeps going then I'm sure it will.

There are obvious things that need to be addressed, one thing I'm hearing a lot of is the size. It's not too difficult to put in a full-screen button and I think it would go a long way towards making the client viable.

Some other things that would help are simple design elements. The design is very umm... thrown together and not thought out well at all. Your different elements don't flow well with each other. Some places you use default flash elements, and other places you've quickly created elements. Getting someone to design a consistent set of GUI elements would really make this client feel more solid and would take the players out of the game a lot less.
(( I don't know much about Iron Realms as a company, but I'm guessing as you run Text Based MMOs or MUDS, that you don't really have a graphics team or a designer and you outsource all of the graphics work. There is nothing wrong with that, if you are looking for a designer to talk to feel free to contact me and I can give you some advice about the GUI of the flash client.))

As for significant features, you really have an opportunity to create a light weight but powerful GUI for your games, and I would absolutely suggest you take advantage of that and create interface elements out of the rather basic things. You've already started with the map and the prompts for health, mana experience and so on, but I would really like to see you take it further. Simple things like gold, and credits, dingbats, lessons, level and experience would be nice. A vials pane would be nice, so we can track how much we have left in our vials. Even something as advanced as an equipment diagram showing what you are wearing would be great. These aren't very difficult things to code and if done properly are not going to noticeably slow down the client.

Again, I am quite excited about a flash based client for my favorite MMORPG. (Yes I like Lusternia far more than World of Warcraft.) I'd be happy to help out in any way I can so don't be shy to contact me because I'd like to start using this client as my main IRE client.

EDIT: I also sent this post to Jeremy at ironrealms.

Check out the Lusternia Flash Link!

At the very bottom of the page is a link to a resizable, full window version of the flash. Pretty neat, eh!

As before, report issues or problems to Ironrealms (not me). Be detailed and specific!
Daganev2008-11-21 20:07:35
hmm, how annoying. It doesn't save your settings from computer to computer, like the nexus client does sad.gif
Llandros2008-11-21 20:17:53
Wow, is it just me or did word wrap get turned off or something? Room descriptions are just one long line for me
Noola2008-11-21 20:30:22
You know what I like best about this client? It's the only one that lets me see the number of games played! (246 on my current character! smile.gif )
Isuka2008-11-27 02:41:59
I have to admit that I'm impressed with some of those features, especially the way the GUI is abstracted away from the MUD output. Cool stuff.
Neos2008-12-14 00:18:15
It came. I saw. I've seen better. I.e nexus.

I like certain parts, like the map and it shows by how much your health goes up and down, also with all other stats. But I'm confused with the editor and the rest of the interface. It does well, but it needs improvement. Hope it does improve because I would like to use it but with all the things I'm use to with Nexus and also with it's new features. I've played 602 games. It showed me when I quit. Nexus did that to me when I suicided a character, but it went to fast and disappeared.
