Shadow... is probably a bad guy. There were 14 playable characters in FF3/6. With Gogo out, that leaves 13, which means that there are 3 more that aren't supposed to be here and... I dunno if that's a tad too few for a bad guy group.

Okay, let's see. There are 16 of us, even without poor Gogo, which means there are definitely more of us than there should be. (As Kira said, three extra.)

That is a bit small for mafia, I'd think, though the addition of Shadow as a potential ne'er-do-well helps a bit. Then, too, there are a few who either changed sides at some point (like Celes), or were more or less working with the group, but for their own reasons and goals.

This could be very, very tricky, because quite a few of us have some sort of history with the Empire.

Possibly, but at the same time, Celes was the one who brought the party together during the World of Ruin. If I had to make a list of characters I am certain aren't Mafia, it'd be Terra because she's the main character, Celes because of her actions during the World of Ruin, Strago because he's too kind-hearted, and Relm because she'd never want to actually hurt her grandpa. I might be wrong but my button is on none of them being bad-guys.

Umaro could be, but that'd pretty much require Mog to be as well since he "controls" Umaro.

Gau... he's a wildcard, but I think it would depend on Sabin, and maybe Cyan.

Setzer too, but less likely than Umaro and Gau in my opinion.

Though Strago was in the Cult of Kefka at one point, I think you're right. I could see Terra going for Mafia side though just because what's at stake is the Esper power. She might go for that simply to keep it out of the hands of the others, or even to see her dad's side of the family again...

I couldn't see Mog going for it though, it just seems off to me.

I'm just posting to say I'm reading the posts. I don't actually have anything to contribute, because of not really knowing about the game, so don't mind me!

I have played many a final fantasy game ... but I must have missed this one. I went and did a web search for the name I got on my role sheet.

You'll likely get better results searching for VI than III, as the numbering error has since been corrected in rereleases. I used to know a Final Fantasy Shrine that would work well here...

May I suggest that we don't talk about names that we might think are mafia untill the name is actually claimed by somebody?

I mean, I think we would want to allow people to make a bad claim and not tell them who not to claim.

Celina has two right now, Arix, Esano, Krin, me, and Rika have one each. Dun think I missed anyone, but if so, feel free to correct me.

The thing is, quite a few of the characters could theoretically be evil-doers, or misguided, or just back to their own selfish lives. It has been a year, after all, and it's not as if we've all kept in touch.

I just found it fun to vent ideas... I'm not very good am I?

And I think I'll be going to bed now. I have a vote on me, but I haven't voted for anyone since nobody seem to stand out yet. I'll probably make a vote tomorrow though, to at least get the game going.
