Hello everyone! I'm new to the game, and was just about to create a character when I realized...everything's quite confusing. I was hoping I could get some help in creating my character.

First, I was thinking of joining one of the forests, though I haven't decided which one yet. I also was leaning towards a fighter type rather than a magic based one. Which races are good for those classes? Any help is appreciated!

For the Warrior archetypes...

If you go to Serenwilde, your best bet is an Elfen. If you go to Glomdoring, your best bet is a Faeling.

If you don't want to be an Elfen or a Faeling, I'd suggest Igasho or Loboshigaru.

Also, if you're going for the Warrior archetypes, I suggest you get involved ASAP in the Bardics and the Artisinals, so you have a chance to win credits for runes! (Psst, it's free to enter and fun)

Good luck!

I hear krokani is pretty good too, for a warrior race. Loboshigaru and aslaran make good monks if you're thinking of going in that direction.

Ah! That reminds me of another question...what's the difference between fighters and monks? Are they essentially the same or fundamentally different?

From what I understand, they're quite different.

They're the same in that if you want to be good, you'll need to harass a forger.

Why not take a look at The Scrying Pool? You can find a lot of information there, like on what skills are for what or do what.

Warriors do more wounding, the use wounding to give their afflictions.

Monks give less wounding, more afflictions, and use the wounding for damage.

Hello and Welcome.

It is always fun to choose a race, but let me remind you that most races are good at SOMETHING, so you shouldn't be too worried about the mechanical aspects of your character. Remember to choose a character you'll have fun playing as well. That being said...

Elfen and Faeling have racial specializations for Serenwilde and Glomdoring respectively. You won't go wrong in choosing those races, and you'll have it easier if you decide to switch to a magic user guild within the same org.

Male Kephera for Serenwilde and Illithoid for Glomdoring are good choices if you choose the monk guild.

Otherwise, Aslaran, Loboshigaru, Krokani, Taurian, Orclach, Igasho, Dracnari, Tae'dae and Dwarf are all good enough races to choose for melee. Remember that you do get a free reincarnation that you can use if you don't like your race.

Anyway, welcome to the game. Remember to have fun.

Also, be reminded that racism is alive and well in Lusternia. Like so:

o. Illithoids are not allowed in Serenwilde.
o. Illithoids and viscanti are not allowed in New Celest.
o. Merian and elfen are discriminated in Magnagora; kephera are not allowed in Magnagora.
o. Kephera are discriminated in Glomdoring.

Still, besides those, you can go whatever, wherever!

Don't think there's any actual law against Kephera. Just the whole Fain-being-trapped and illithoid-being-trapped thing.
Kiradawea2008-11-25 10:17:23
And if you start to argue with that, people will likely not bother with you. Yeah, it's racism, but leave it be. You're only gonna hurt yourself if you go around claiming "Viscanti are people too" in Celest or "Elfen aren't food" in Mag.

But ... I added Kephera to the list last time and was shouted down ... I have to carry on the tradition ....

As far as the communes (forests), it is really up to how you would like to roleplay.

Serenwilde worships Two major entities known as Great Spirits. They are White Hart and Mother Moon. Generally speaking, they are the kinder of the two forests. However, they are also the more fanatical of the two communes. In Serenwilde, you have several different guilds you may join. Among them, the most popular of the guilds are the Moondancers (Wiccan Archtype), the Serenguard (Warrior Archtype), and the Hartstone druids (Druid Archtype). Go HERE to peruse the help files if you do not wish to sign into the game. There are several other guilds as well that are also found in Serenwilde.

NOTE: If you are in the game, try HELP GUILD or HELP GUILDS. You will get a list of all of the guilds found within a given social organization.

Glomdoring worships the Two major entities known as Great Spirits as well. They are Mother Night and Brother Crow. Glomdoring is more of a "no nonsense" sort of organization, with worship of their two Great Spirits and ritual work being at the forefront of their social make up. Don't get them wrong, however. They are a good group of people if you want to explore a less of a "HUG ME!" society and more of a regimented and introspective role play. Despite what many people say, Glomdoring is meant for those who see more of the primal forces of nature within their role play.

Within Glomdoring, the most popular of the guilds are the Shadowdancers (Wiccan Archtype) and also known as the Night Coven, the Blacktalon (Druid Archtype) and the Nekotai (Monk Archtype).

I hope this help. My advise would be to log into Lusternia and speak with a member from each of the two communes. Ask them questions that pertains to what you are looking for in a commune (forest). Just make it clear that if you are going to speak to them OOC, let them know beforehand. OOC is not looked kindly upon in this game.

Good luck.

Spiritsingers are definitely more popular than Moondancers and Hartstone at times.

True, at times, but typically, those are the three highest rated guilds. Then again, I haven't logged into the game for quite a while now, so I could be wrong.

You've missed Glomdoring going down some pretty bad roads.

Don't tell me that. I'm already fighting the desire to log in and shove my foot up a few rears.
