I really, honestly, doubt that there would be more than one town, Mafia games seem to be pretty black and white, with us or against us sort of deal.

Well there really can only be town, mafia, and other. So he's either mafia or other. Since taking out a rogue doesn't hurt the town side combined with the significant possibility of taking out a mafia member it's win, win. Well, not for Daganev if he is rogue, but Archer2 was rogue and had a pretty random win condition so he might not have had much chance anyway.
