I procrastinated a survey analysis project that is due on Monday morning. I need you all to answer this poll ASAP. I needed to gather about 100 questionaires, but only recovered about 76, so I need at least 24 more respondents.

IMPORTANT: Aside from voting in your gender, also mark N/A in the opposite gender, so it will let you vote.

You would be doing me an enormous favor by voting.

I put 2 questions that are identical, except one is for men, the other for women, since I have to include that in the results.

Lesson to be learned. DON\\'T BE LIKE STANGMAR AND PROCRASTINATE!

You missed 'playing on the computer'.

EDIT: And we can't choose only from the male category - it won't count or vote. Switch the poll around a bit (so you have Male - Watching Television, Female - Watching Television, without the separate sections), or give a 'not male/female' option for them.

One of the other kids in my group wrote the questions.

Your poll is not working... And advice from a statistics person, you have to many specific options... you results are going to be a little on the inaccurate side, I would of used the following choices...

Watching TV or Move at Home
Reading a Book
Engaging in athletic activity or playing a sport
Attending a sports event
Dinner (I'd actually ask a home cooked meal and or out to a restaurant)

Just my advice though, it gives you easier to work with numbers, and the end result will actually be more accurate. For example if some one likes to play football more then watch it... well no choice for them so they will likely pick neither, or will answer watch the football game.

Yeah, we realized that yesterday, but unfortunately we had almost half the data in already, and didn't want to start over. Our BS'ing skill will have to come to our rescue.
Stangmar2008-12-08 18:53:40
Alright, one person voted N/A on both.......
Unknown2008-12-08 18:54:37
Who was the other swimmer? blink.gif
Noola2008-12-08 19:12:02
Huh. Girls are much more diverse in their leisure activities, obviously! laugh.gif
Stangmar2008-12-09 06:43:43
Thanks for responding, we now have over 100 responses alltogether, and we're going to put it into a nice report and create a whole lot of bs now biggrin.gif

They will, of course, be entirely wrong. You've taken one very small subsect of the population (those who enjoy playing muds, Lusternia in particular, and browse the forums) and will no doubt try to extrapolate this to everyone. I, personally, could see some correlation between those who enjoy playing a text based game and those who enjoy reading a book ... and those who don't enjoy either.
Stangmar2008-12-09 07:00:16
Actually, most of the results that we have are from people all around campus. I just got lazy at the last moment and got the final 20-30 online.
Stangmar2008-12-09 22:32:25
Male Female
Movie 14 13
TV 6 4
Book 15 12
Golf 4 1
Tennis 1 1
Swimming 1 6
Baseball Game 3 3
Football Game 6 4
Dinner 5 9
TOTAL 55 53

the p-value i got in a test for homogenity was .4684, which is greater than the significance level of 0.05, so we fail to reject the null hypothesis of homogenity. Ergo, visa gender didn't have TOO much of an influence on things.

Not that it matters at all. By actually talking getting the opinions of real people and not making up stats, he likely did more work then 80% of the others doing the projects tongue.gif

I actually thought i was the laziest one in the group, but found nobody else was doing anything either. He never told us we have to be accurate about the population, just demonstrate that we can take these numbers and find some way to interpret them. I just saw 2 groups get up today and give even more stretched out data, such as which outlet is the best for advertising, and their survey had waaaay too many irrelevant questions on it, and they got a passing grade. And another group that got up and inferred that fuel mileage will be affected by weight(really?), and got a decent grade.

Weight of a car will effect fuel millage, thus weight of an individual will affect it as it adds weight to the car. Of course, the factor here, in a van, full sized, truck and such, this impact will be small unless the person ways more then 800 pounds. In the average size car, it may be more noticeable, but again you'd need to be a really have person. Compact cars, well a 60 pound person will affect it there.

Remember, when they test millage, the car is normally empty.

I think you completely missed my sarcasm.

I hear that keeping all your junk in your trunk gives you extra milage. deal.gif

We ended up compounding our categories to look more like this
Leisure Sports
Male 44 18
Female 43 17

Performing a homogenity test showed us that gender is not a factor. We managed to cobble together a decent presentation, and the teacher ate it up biggrin.gif
