Divine can automatically hear tells where their name is mentioned, I -think-. Same with clans.
Also, that log is very cool. If I hadn't already decided my current alt was going to follow Fain, I'd have been convinced.

Yes.
Always assume they can hear you.

OH OHohohohoh question...
Some time ago I honoured snaithy and he had been turned into a maggot by fain, atleast so I was told, was talking to telperion -IN TELLS- and said that fain was a gutless coward. little ways off this voice says
"Gutless coward? you will pay for your >insert big fancy word here <"
Can the divine listen in on our tells?

Ayup they can. They can also listen in on clans and even commands that are not processed.
Example: if I type in
OHAI ELOSTIAN I SEE YOU THAR
and he's paying attention to me, he can read it. They -are- gods, after all. What did you expect?

Big fancy word would be Insolence, and judging from my experience with Terentia and calling her a once, in a tell to someone else, she definitely can.
Never do that.

Tells are split up into two usages by the player base when communicating with one another.
OOC and IC references towards one another.
I have been told Gods listen in on tells, so I would assume the information you are conveying towards another character using tells can be used against you in Lusternia but don't quote me on this. I haven't been around long enough to know if this is correct or not.
I suggested in the idea's forum another form of long range communication method to separate OOC and IC interaction between players but it was viewed as something the player base found no need for. I guess if you put those little brackets around your tells then the information exchanged between two players can't be considered as a legitimate reason to punish your character ICly, unless the information passed along is clearly breaking game rules?
I guess if you are going to talk negatively towards a God to another player and you wish no IC punishment towards your character, use tells and those brackets. I don't know the IC and OOC protocol used here, so if you use this advice and you still get spanked by a God, don't blame me!

Gods only recognize OOC if they feel like they should. They don't have to.
And yes, gods can read tells, even if it's not about them.
