Instrument Types

Alright. I don't know whether somethings changed regarding this but are there more instruments to chose from then the mandolin, violin, viola and lute? I'm finding myself really wanting to add a few other instruments to that list. I'm not about to be stupid and add piano to it but rather stringed instruments that could easily be held and that have enough strings to complete a song.

If any of these are able to be crafted, I would very much like to know because I've never seen them before; the cello, the harp, the lirone, the rebec, and the viol among many others should be able to be created.

If anything, I really want to see the harp in there. There's no reason the harp shouldn't be in there already. Its a pretty RP friendly just by the symbolism. Not to mention, there's even a Celestian god who has one so its not like the harp is unknown to Lusternia...

While I haven't seen anyone with a harp (THEY'RE HUGE!), maybe a mini-harp could be made?

PS: There are also lyres, I believe. biggrin.gif

Ideas for adding new insturment types are shot down pretty quickly. Any wind instruments are out, and adding any new stringed ones hasn't gone anywhere.

Harbingers need drums, thanks.

I want one of those hand drums like in Karate Kid 2.

A real harp is a big huge thing that you sit while playing. The thing people think of when they say harp, that little two-legged thing that angels play on clouds in commercials for cream cheese, that's a lyre, and we do have those.

At first, instruments (like drums and flutes) were turned down because they couldn't do intervals or chords, or couldn't be played while singing, or couldn't be carried and played while walking. Then we proposed instruments that met all those requirements. Those were turned down for other reasons (for instance, we can't have sitars because they come from a culture that doesn't exist in Lusternia, which is why none of us wear saris or bindis, nosiree!), or because "people don't really want those" or even "people don't really want more types available".

By all accounts, we're not getting any more.

I've compiled a list of possible directions we could go with this idea. Enjoy! suspicious.gif

Heee that last one made me spit out water.
Gwylifar2008-12-17 14:12:26
Gwylifar still has sandojin-skin tribal drums from his days as Serenguard GM. Whenever I log in to clear out my messages, they fall out of my inventory when I log off, but reset back into it later, so you can see I've been there if you know where to look.

I always thought of Magnagoran bards (who aren't, like, GM or anything big like that) as people with hurdy-gurdys who stand on the street corner, screaming, with a chained furrikin doing tricks to avoid being whipped to an inch of his life.

If I ever go bard again...

I want a Sitar.

bagpipes *sagenod*

but actually, I have issues with the current instruments.

How can you wield an instrument, and something in the other hand, when you need BOTH hands to play said instrument?

Bards should not be able to play their instruments while wielding two objects.

The thing about bagpipes, flutes etc is that you cannot sing while playing them.
