Okay, so, Breeding. The beasts have genders for a reason. I'm hoping that they can breed, which will affect their looks and maybe their skills and/or stats.

Ideas? What should work, what shouldn't work? How should it work? Should it be just an ability, or a split-off from Beastmastery that you can choose at Master?

obviously we should visit the day care centres on routes 34 and 117, Four Island or Agate village and leave them there.

I doubt it'll fly. The admins'll want to keep a lock and key on their inherent mix-and-matching for pets only.

Out of curiousity, could you give a pet steambreath or gasbreath?

I wouldnt mind the pokemon system as was hinted, but I believe female chars had higher defense and males had higher offense, maybe we could take a similar idea and have it also effect maxes on health and mana?

However cool this sounds, alas, I don't think it would be conceivable to code realistically. By that I mean we couldn't realistic justify the coding time required to do such a massive project--further, it is already excruciating to create beasts as it is (which is why you don't see more about).

Well, a very simple for-roleplay-purposes-only version could probably be done fairly easily: bring a male and female beast of the same type together to the stable, invest a certain (large) number of feeds, and some time, and get back the same egg/stasis-baby you could buy in the village (thus, no extra building time required). The feeds in question would cost about 75% as much as the egg/stasis-baby, so this wouldn't be a free ride; but it would allow you to beat the price -- provided you invested in the breeding stock in the first place.

No attempt would be made to ensure the resulting baby grew up to look like its parents, nor would there be any kind of "family tree" for beasts (unless players kept registries themselves); but while those things would be cool, I bet players would still enjoy the much more limited version I describe, and that that could be done far more easily.

Like the Pokemon games.

Gotta copy them all.

Evarayn (a mud I used to play) had an excellent system for husbandry with beasts. You could invest massive amounts of time to basically create whatever type of beast you wanted by examining the genetic makeup of a creature. For example, if you bred two creatures with wings, and wings were a dominate trait on both, you'd have a good chance of getting wings on the newborn. It was both awesome and amazingly tedious.
