Have fun thinking any organization introduced to a conflict-based game is going to stay neutral for long.
Aerotan2008-12-29 20:35:29
The only way would be to make the first people in it handpicked by the admins for the purpose of making sure people in it stay neutral, if that makes sense.
Similar to the way Viravain handpicked the leaders for Glomdoring till they were running on their own as a not-mag-garden.

Yeah, I've also always wondered how Ackleberry could be thought of as barbaric in any way. I can't think of anything I've ever seen or read that points towards Ackleberry being any kind of barbaric or war-like or aggressive. Seems to me that they're like Sweden or something. Only with cuddly bears and woodland critters that talk.
But.... maybe being lost in time has warped their brains (like going into the wormhole did to the folks in that movie Event Horizon) and when they come back they'll be like the Christmas Critters from Southpark. All snuggly and adorable and eager to you up.

Many many moons ago, there was a rurmor going around that perhaps Ackelberry did not escape out of reality fast enough, and some Taint got into Ackelberry before they went into safety.
It was rumored that the forest would be half tainted and half pure or some such thing.

Hashan?
the cities in Achaea aren't pitted against each other in the way the nations of Lusternia are.
Fania2008-12-29 21:38:46
I find the lure of new commune cities very tempting. I doubt if Fania will be one of the hand picked to be among the first members, (unless they do an application thing?) but if asked she would strongly consider it. I would want to know the politics of the new City/Commune Fania become a part of. Fania would not want to become an enemy of Celest nor Serenwilde.
It is really hard to pass up the chance to be in a "brave new world" (personally I would prefer if they weren't as brave as the novel: ie hardcore like Mag or Celest. Nor would I like them as flimsy as Glom or Seren). Starting from scratch is both daunting and exciting. Fania is very loyal to Celest, but the lack of culture there is depressing. Being the librarian of such a place is even more so (Oh, how I love the people there, though!). It's almost a flip of a coin kind of thing. There will be so much that changes in Celest (and the other communities) after the new areas arrive. Depending how many go and stay there may be chances for Celest to start over in a way (Think about that before rushing to a new area, everyone). I still have so much to do in my positions now, and I would like to leave a positive mark if I leave. I might start a new Alt. to play in the communities, but it wouldn't be anyone of consequence (I barely have time for one serious character).
I think my strongest draw to these new communities is the opportunity to be neutral. Personally I hate war and fighting. I know I'm not good at fighting, but it's because I see it as unimportant. I never bothered to get good. Problems arise for Fania because of this, but it's just like, "oh, well". I'm sure they wont be neutral to the extent that I would like to see, but I'm still excited to see whatever may come.

They won't stay neutral for long. Mainly because I'd be willing to bet that Mag/Celest would get annoyed with it after a while of the commune ignoring them, and team up against them.
Anyways, all this talk of neutrality reminds me of the Neutral beings of Neutral Planet on Futurama.
"Live Free or Don't." "If I don't survive, tell my wife... Hello."

If the Admin decided to strongarm Ackleberry and not allow them to ally with Seren, you better believe there will be a forums jihad over it.
I think what people are trying to get at is Ackleberry is going to attract the same type of players as Serenwilde, and the furries will not be denied!

That sentence just states that you know absolutely nothing about Serenwilde, I'd take players from Serenwilde any day than more of the 'lolIr1337' players from Magnagora.

You don't know me that well then and how long I have waited for Gaudiguch to be released. I've been Mag and Celest during those times. Well Id say Dysolis was mag about 40ish years give or take, leaving Celest the longest time.

No no, she's quite right. But of course, there will be balance. When Pig-anus city is released, the players that gravitate to it will have the most in common with mag, and they will forum jihad until they can be friends.

I'm not sure what you mean by strongarm them.
It basically works like this.
Auskellis comes back from his trip through the void. He looks at Charune, and looks as Lisaera and says to them, "How could you have left the forest ally with the cities! Begone from my sight!" And then he moves to Ackelberry, and he tells all of his followers to defile any shrines of Lisarea or Charune that are in or near Ackelberry.
And then another divine pops up, goes to Ackellberry and does the same thing with whichever gods are needed to create the political alliance necessary.

She really is kind of right. I think Serenwilde was supposed to be more like Ithaqua in Imperian...but it ended up like Ackleberry should be here.
Shiri2008-12-30 01:46:03
The general thing she's trying to express happens to be correct, she just included extraneous and "pig-anus"-like (????? Akui) details along with it.

But seriously, adding just a single additional org would completely disrupt the balance of the basin currently, and we need something to break up the status quo. Serenwilde and Celest have ample IC reasons to hate each other, and yet it's still snugglefest. Adding another political influence would break up things as they stand, I think

Status Quo is often preferable to unknown disruption.
What if with the addition of one or two groups Glomdoring is left simply to wither and die? Either the game is balanced politically now, or it is not. If it isn’t balanced now then how can it be certain that adding more groups will create balance? Keep in mind that balance is a rather fragile state. Add enough groups and you’re just begging that one group will be not needed and shunned and then trounced.

I find these types of statements confusing. It seems that while everyone concentrates on the small amount of generally unwanted snuggling that occurs in Serenwilde, they forget that there is no other organization with quite as much blindsided backstabbing and political maneuvering. This blissful, happy-bouncy vision of Serenwilde is utter foolishness to anyone who has played there for a time.
