Hmm, looking it over, I'd say:
Remove elemental weaknesses. They're uncessary and awkward to balance, especially for a totem/rituals race.
Increase base constitution +2, but reduce Merian Lord con bonus from +5 to +3 or +4.
Other than that, maybe, maybe not add in resists. Viscanti may not have great stats, but they have level 2 resists to magic, cutting, and blunt. Three really major damage sources. I'd be for giving Merian some resists as well, which would set the commune spec races apart from the city spec races in an interesting way.
Edit- and the "you had a chance to present your case" argument is bad from any angle on any issue. Especially with an ongoing concern like a game. If there is a problem somewhere, and it can be shown to be one, it should be fixed when possible.

There's already a difference between commune and city races. Communeraces don't have disadvantages.
EDIT: And how often do you see racial changes in game? We had a lot of major changes over the years, yet only one change to races.

It's better to be a non spec race than spec race in almost all instances unless you are Serenguard, in which case Elfen Lord is king.

Just reduce the elemental penalties to level 1 and then leave them alone..?
I don't see the need for sweeping changes, eh.
I don't see the need for sweeping changes, eh.
That would not make them even close to being viable.
Also, Rainydays, it seems silly to say we shouldn't have a rebalance because we already had one.

Viscanti is a playable race, believe me. One would play a viscanti over a merian. Just compare the stats and advantages, alongside disadvantages. Melville reported, before titan/demi, that most times he wasn't even required to sip health. Viscanti are probably vulnerable to mana kills, only.

Just to clarify I am not disagreeing with you about merians. I am just saying spec races have never been that great other than Elfen Lord, which has for some reason always been godly with stats + the other minor advantages.
Viscanti now probably is good too, I really haven't looked at them. I just feel the pain of being a spec race in an archetype that has non spec races outperforming in vital stats and DMP.

High Elfen are not very good, it's true. Much better for their classes than Imperial Merians are for theirs, but still not great. They suffered from the flattening of stats as well.

Deschain:
What I said was, we shouldn't turn this into a "we need a massive racial overhaul" thread, because we just had one. To me, the issue is that one of the four totem/ritual races that should be very present, is fairly unusable. So, the people who are informed on the matter (not myself, ultimately), should say "this is why there is a problem, this is what is causing the problem, and this is how the problem should be fixed".
If it gets approached from the angle of "lets tack on issues from other races like some bill trying to get through the senate", or "Viscanti have 3 level 2 resistances to major sources and a level 3 regen in taint, blarg!" It's not really touching on the problem, and isn't going to help the case overly much.

Viscanti are not so tanky as everyone thinks. I fall over after a few moments of warriors hitting on me and the specs for Viscanti hardly help bards or mages (which has prompted Celina and Ceren to go human). Human are just OP all around as are Elfen. Viscanti pay for their resists in lower stats in comparison to human/elfen who don't take any disadvantages in exchange for super stats. I could never reach 22 int like you are doing even with archlich, demi, and knowledge. And Celina could never reach 20+ charisma with all the bardic buffs, it just doesn't happen with Viscanti, sure you can be an OP warrior but what race can't really pull that off?

Don't be hatin
It'd be nice if more people did play their spec race not because they're resigned to it, but because they actually like being one.
I don't think the merian resistances should be completely removed, but I don't think they need that much buffing either. Reduce the weaknesses and increase eq to level 2 might be good.
Mugs need the same, but give them a point of con as well.
Aslarans can get a point of con too! (and str...yes...str)

Man. If I didn't know what team you played for, I'd question you.

I admit, manly elf didn't turn up any hits, so I had to work with what I had.
Malicia2009-01-05 20:06:56
Legolas!
That aside, Mr. Shuyin, it's easy for you to say that certain racial penalties shouldn't be removed, while playing the super elfen with zero drawbacks!

Eh, on a more serious note, I really don't think elfen (elfen lord and wilde elfen anyway, high elfen are good but nothing to write home about) are overpowered, just better than other races. I wouldn't mind if all races were equally as awesome as elfen or human were.
So how about them merians.

More merians on non-territorial land for the purposes of slaying and cooking!

I don't know what damage is considered what really. But it makes more sense to me for elfen to be resistant to magic in gerneral and not psyhic, or atleast nature magic, psyhic just doesn't make much sense to me.
Rika2009-01-05 20:45:30
Elfen do not need more magic resistance. This is mainly because elfen will mostly be found in Serenwilde, who easily have the most magic resistance.
