A kraken is a squid. A leviathan is variously a whale or a serpent!

(I know you Hadrian! Kinda.)
Kiradawea2009-01-09 14:15:18
I made Kiradawea from scratch for a name that would sound powerful in the beginning, and soft towards the end.

I kind of remember posting about it before (was there another thread?), but Silferras was initially Silfyrras, which was an elfen character I made up for some board-based RPG a few years back. It was a random twisty meld of the words 'silver' and 'fire,' and the sibilant end-sound I had in mind at the time. By the time I decided to make her in Lusty, the 'y' was starting to look weird, so I switched in a vowel. Original name as far as I know. smile.gif

That made me laugh probably a lot more than it should have.

Mind you, it was a very abrupt, yet slow, keyboard smash. With my eyes closed. I'm surprised it didn't end up like a short string of consonants.

There's a simple rule to naming your characters to be masculine/femenine :

If there's a vowel at the end, it's female. This works in 90% of the cases, and even if you hadn't noticed this before, you probably followed the rule anyway. Y's are still the iffy one. R's and O's are also iffy, no idea why.

With poor Nys being in that 10%. *consoles*

*cries*
I had issues with Yoiko- people thought she was male.
Yuzuyu, Mirth, both of those, also had issues with people thinking them male.

The only names I haven't had gender issues with is Miryana and Nymnaterrah. But I didn't like Miryana, and Nymnaterrah was just way too long.

(All these other names are from other IRE games, jtlyk. I have no alts.)

There's one every few months.

I know! But still, the first thing that popped into my mind was 'giant squid' baghead.gif .

Maybe it was the mention of tentacles elsewhere.
Romero2009-01-09 16:06:35
In high school I was always asked if I had a twin because a kid named Chris Romero was said to look the same as me. I ended up getting called Romero and he ended up getting called Castro and we ended up getting mixed up in classes and messed with a few people. Actually ended up saying we were cousins and were pretty good friends. Always liked the name.

so yeah, nothing to do with Romeo.

Deschain = surname of Roland in Stephen King's Dark Tower series.

Alban means 'white'. Originally picked to correspond with the Alabaster Road through Serenwilde, as Alban's title as a druid was "Druid of the White Road" for a long time.

Though it suits a Celestine just as well.

Dang it, I'm wrong!

I keep thinking the Ion Storm dude, actually.
Lanath2009-01-10 00:49:21
From a pool of vaguely Magnagoran appropriate names (Persian and Arabic), I pulled out "La" and "nathe", and got "Lanathe". But my first attempt to create Lanath went wrong, so I dropped the "e".
Konton2009-01-11 11:11:25
Konton is Japanese for Chaos. It's a name I've used in every IRE game I've every played. I got the name from an old friend back when I started writing fanfiction as WatcherofDarkness. Back then I always just called myself (well my marty stu self anyways) Chaos, she then told me the word for it and I've loved it since.

Migera's a minor character from the backstory/mythology of the freeware game La-Mulana. He was part of a race of giants whose graveyard is in the titular ruins. I actually thought Migera was the nasty, sole survivor of the race, that the player character fights during the game, but in retrospect I think he was called Fut or something. I suck. confused.gif

Shurimaru. Well, I made him during my (brief) Narutard phase, so I wanted it to sound all Kishimoto-y. I went with Shuri (Shuriken - ken) + maru (an addon for boy's names.). Kind of lame.

My alt's name is from my favorite Weezer song. (Now, those who care to figure it out might piece together who my alt is. I WON'T SAY IT STRAIGHT, SO STOP ASKING MEH. >_<)

I believe there were a few people who were subjected to my rant about your alt's name...because from the moment I noticed that character, every time I see him in game, that song pops into my head...and being that name gets seen frequently around QW and CWHO and the forest in general, IT'S PERMANENTLY STUCK IN MY HEAD, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH.

*ahem*

Arkzrael Le'Vondati was a name I conjured about two or three years before I discovered Lusternia. It's a long and confusing story on how and why, and is frankly too much to explain at this ungodly hour of the morning. Needless to say, yes, I get called Arkie quite a lot in the real world by non-Lustys, and it was the first thing I could come up with when discovering Lusternia.

Raiyne is a play on 'rain', obviously, but it's stemmed from a small writing project I was messing with off and on, and significant in it's elemental perspective to that storyline. Again, it was the first thing to come off the top of my head when I got the itching to start a new character. However, the name is stolen from a male element of my project...but it's androgynous to some point.

Hey, at least it's not a Weezer song. Maybe my next one can be...Slimshaydee?

Marina just sounded right, but it also means "a place where ships dwell" or something kin. Whytetower I got because a friend of mine was telling me about "porno star" names where you took your middle name as the first name and the street where you were born as your last name. I was born on Whitetower Boulevard.

Same here.

Um, Hadrian just popped into my head. That's it. When I try to think of something, I always come up with icky names, and it's usually the ones that just pop into my head that I stick with. Hadrian came, and I thought it was perfect for the character (common and easy to overlook, kind of serious-sounding because of the initial H so people wouldn't bug me too much), so I went with that. Working nicely so far on the easy-to-overlook front, I think like five people in Lusty know me. happy.gif

I think I might know you! ohmy.gif
