Stockroom Idea

For the sake of organization, I propose items stored in containers within stockrooms not be subject to decay. This would make it easier for someone to store possessions if they are going to be away on an extended absence. It's really difficult to keep up with what is what and whose is whose when it's all laying on the floor!

I would also like a small command, if possible, to reroute gold. Makes it easier to say "This gold is from this sale, it goes to Bob." So people can have an easier time selling goods with friends instead of having to buy and all that jazz.

Can't you put a rack in your stockroom and then put items in that rack to keep them from decaying?

And, if you're going to redirect my gold, send it straight to my bank account, please. tongue.gif

Racks would help only if the items were those that would be kept free from decay in a rack anyway: in other words, the stockroom aspect would add nothing.

The fact that containers in stockrooms could be used to preserve your goods during an absence is precisely why we won't get this. Estarra has vetoed far less ambitious and more limited ideas on ways to preserve goods for your own use, and they've tried to find ways to stop people using stockrooms for this already. The shame is that it means you can't sell things like a "novice starter kit" because the stuff inside the container-on-sale will still decay.

You also can't build furniture in a stockroom. I wanted a chest, no go.

I thought things in stockrooms were non-decay?

They are, for the most part. But if you put something inside something else, that inner item decays.

I would prefer more organization. Not because I can't separate the money (however I love the idea), but I would love to be able to see what I have. I still get the feeling that there may be one or two things I haven't priced yet because I can't easily sift through everything.

for Narsrim: use your journal and write down identification numbers? Problem solved
Abethor2009-01-12 23:33:29
Yes, containers and then maybe little bins for each container that collect the money from their respective container. That way, say if Narsrim were selling things in my shop, the money is separate and his items are too.

Not quite solved, Nys. That's fine for if you just had a few items in the store, but hundreds of items per person is hard to sort out! Especially if the items are the same, but contributed by different people. It would really help us out if they could be sorted as such, and the gold dropped in each bin.

Ultimately, I think this would help the playerbase as a whole. I'm going to drop 1000cr into a personal manse shop for the -sole- purpose of storing items for myself and my friends. I just think it's silly that people have to invest so much to achieve something as simple as efficient, long term storage.

I like the idea, particularly because being able to sell groups of things (armour sets, newbie packages as Lendren mentioned, etc) would be handy. However, just be careful because they've changed the decay rules at least once because shops were being used as primarily personal storage:

The legitimate use of stockrooms is to store items to be sold, and the
reason items do not decay in them is to help facilitate the sale of
these items without penalizing shopkeepers if they don't sell quickly.

With that in mind, stockrooms have been used to store personal use items
with no intent of being sold. This has several negative side-effects:
mainly, a huge number of cheaply made items being stored increases our
database size (which could have eventual consequences of game lag), but
also some cases of poor sportsmanship with regards to other players'
items (ie, storing enemy dark nest eggs solely to prevent summoning a
new one).

Due to these issues, and that storing such items does not align with the
purpose of stockroom non-decay, many of these non-sellable items will
begin to decay in stockrooms. These include, but are not limited to:

- Tarot cards
- Stealth masks
- Mushroom spores
- Crow cloaks
- Black Nest eggs

New instances of these items will begin to decay immediately, but there
will be a grace period for currently existing items.

A nice manse artifact would be something that contains a limited number of items (say 5-10) and causes them not to decay. That wouldn't go against the spirit of stockrooms, would be limited so it won't cause database issues, and should be more affordable than an entire shop.

You can already buy a safe to hold up to 200 items, though they'll only be slowed to half decay rate, so I really doubt there's going to be another artifact that allows items to be stored without ever decaying.

And, definitely be careful about buying a shop just to store things and not sell them. Might find yourself out 1,000 credits with nothing to show for it.

If you decide to do that, just give me the 1000 credits because I would gladly take them off your hands.
