Back to Common Grounds.

So...I've been a dreamweaver since I first started playing Lusternia. In fact, it was the coolness factor of that skillset that played a huge part in my staying with the game. The fact that the neat abilities also had some combat application didn't hurt either. Recently, however, I made a list of what I still liked about the skill. It was distressingly short.

Dreamform
Coalesce
Memoryloss

Everything else about it fell squarely into the 'meh' category. As such, I want to change to either telekinesis or telepathy. I've checked the scrying pool, but the impersonal listings only tell so much. What are the pros and cons of each one, and what is more viable for an Illithoid Geomancer?

I've never used either myself, but from what I've gathered here, I'd say Telepathy wins almost hands down. The hidden afflictions are just too good to pass up.

I think Telepathy sucks 1-on-1 unless you have some mad useful illusions. The hidden afflictions are easy to detect, easy to cure. It's pretty good in group though.

Have to agree with Narsrim. TP has hidden afflictions, but so many of them are curable with focus mind that it's pretty difficult to make much use of them.

TK has the edge in combat, but I don't think it's massively better than TP - you can do some cool things with illusions/dominate.

When it comes to bashing, does either pull ahead of the other? I see myself doing that much more than 1v1 in the near future.

Well, I've never been either, so I'm speaking from second hand knowledge, but it looks like all the good bashing abilities like biofeedback and psiarmour are in psionics, so it doesn't matter which one you take.

Honestly I would suggest just picking one based on which flavour you like best: controlling peoples minds or controlling physical objects.

That's a decent boost in favour of Telekinesis. The extra ego is really useful for forcefield, especially if you're planning to bash rather than engage in combat. At your current level, with Netzach (no throne or beauty) and as much illdrain as possible, you'd have 6700 ego, which is practically health with forcefield (although damage scales to health not ego).

Telepathy gives no bashing boosts, beyond a miniscule 3% to max ego per telepath in a mindlink, which is only applicable for influencing. As an illithoid, you can't influence anyway.

Burnout is really annoying, of course, which is the other downside.

There's not really any disadvantage to either in group combat. Telekinesis is probably a bit simpler in solo, telepathy's hidden afflictions can play havoc in group combat. Telekinesis has choke/throatlock/trip, which is also really good for group combat.

Illithiod + Telekinesis meshes for some of the tankiest mage bashing you've ever seen.

Yeah, if you want to bash and have more cha then con, TK is the way to go. I loved it in my merian days.

Forcefield+Ironwill+Mercy+Performance Mode+20 CHA = Nevergonnadie.

Its actually the other way around for me...16 con and 7 cha. I do have the ability to raise my ego quite high however.

I think I'm going to go with telekinesis. Thanks for all the help.

Think of it this way- in a fight, that 7 CHA will make your Mindblast underpowered. Burst does the same damage no matter who does it though.

Mindblast is based purely on INT, not CHA.

Also: Illithoid TK is a tanky beast for bashing if you keep your ego inflated and throne+beauty. Just expect to explode when a bard sneezes at you.

TP is awesome in group combat, viable in 1v1 if you are creative.
