(Disciples of Klangratch): Mariello (from the Prime Material Plane) says,
"Apparently there has been a raid going on and I am just finding out about it."
(Disciples of Klangratch): Mariello (from the Prime Material Plane) says, "Cause
of deafness."
Please fix deafness!
It was originally changed to block CT and GT because people were sipping tetrodin to give themselves deafness against bards because they didn't care about the effect. Then it was given dizziness procs. Then it was nerfed entirely, but the annoying parts of deafness remain. If you don't move a lot sometimes you just don't notice and miss lots of conversation. It's worse because having earwort up on qq will bring you in deaf without truehearing. There is no need for deafness to have the obnoxious CT/GT-blocking effects for bard's benefit now. If you still want to keep it as a real "affliction" (for some reason), just make it still give dizzy.

But then how do I use excuses like Mariello's?
Revan2009-01-15 04:49:53
deafness and blindness should have NO ill effects. if they're meant to be afflictions, make them afflictions. If they're meant to be defenses, make them defenses! Having them be both is silly. Bards already have a huge advantage in people being deaf: a 3 second stun. So... you can't be deaf against a bard... you can't be undeaf against a bard... why is there such a disadvantage?

You have to be both deaf and undeaf.
Not kidding really, you just have to pick and choose when to eat earwort.
But yes, this would be a great change.

Also it's not really a balance issue anymore so please don't make me envoy it
Revan2009-01-15 05:05:33
Needs to be envoyed. It's a balance issue, has been for a long time. Everyone knows this. *urge shiri*

I wish deafness wasn't a defence, but as it often is, this suggestion seems reasonable.
Deafness is so weird in Lusternia right now (though not as weird as in other IRE games) - be deaf, but hear true, so you can not hear bards music, except for blank note which makes you hear again through music. Unfortunately it does seem like it was meant to be a defence, since Lipread exists.
Maybe just make Lipread into some kind of psychic ability that lets you hear speech and channels, rather than changing deafness again?

I don't mind that deafness blocks channels, except for those I talk to and they honestly don't hear me because they don't cure their deafness for some dumb reason.
I would love to see Lipreading actually become useful.
I'd also love if you didn't have to be both deaf and undeaf against bards, which is so annoyingly stupid it's just not funny.

I agree. You go deaf they stun you and strip it anyways. You don't go deaf and they rape your face. It's lose lose.

BIG whatever!
If you can't deal with the occasional stun to take a break from your "face raping" then you kinda had it coming. (we all see how you dress)
People don't give themselves deafness to deal with bards anyway. They just get truehearing which only really stops bard songs and not acually hearing.

That's not fair: stun is more detrimental to some classes than to others. Monks, for example, require momentum. About four seconds without an attack being launched and you lose one momentum. Therefore: a three second stun + possible afflictions makes gaining momentum much more difficult.
Plus: maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't blanknote stun and strip truehearing? I don't get the second part of your statement. Also: truehearing explicitly gives you deafness as well, doesn't it?
Llandros2009-01-15 17:30:28
True hearing gives you deafness but you can still hear.
Eating earwort when fighting a bard is up to the person. If they need an exra moment to catch up they can do it or not. It's hardly unmanageable. Blank note, if you are some form of deaf, strips the deafness, and or truehearing, and gives a stun. It can also break pentacle and captive audience.
I can't belive you used monks as an example of anything unfair.
This thread was about the problems with actual deafness and not being able to hear stuff as a result.

The stun from the BlankNote is no small thing. The earache should be enough to give the bard the chance he needs.
Llandros2009-01-15 17:44:45
Well I don't see why knights need stun then, aren't wounds enough? Besides blanknote has already been nerfed before.
Unknown2009-01-15 17:49:08
I understand where you're coming from, but my stun is there primarily because I don't have the passives you have, or at least that's my take on it. I'm pretty sure my stun is shorter than yours, too.
BlankNote was nerfed in what way? I can only recall it being upgraded to include the earache, stun, and removing shield...

Llandros2009-01-15 17:54:04
The stun on it was too long. Not an unneeded nerf, but a nerf none the less.
Rika2009-01-15 21:11:40
I don't remember how it exactly was, but didn't blanknote not give earache at one point, but then the stun was never removed/nerfed when it got added?

Yes.
Anyway, this blanknote stuff is kind of off-topic...bard deafness is essentially completely different to regular deafness anyway (except when you qq with it on.)
