So, I had an idea recently that probably won't get anywhere, but, here it is.
Add a new area by the Inner Sea. This area would have in it a Siren who has lost her voice. Your job would be to return her voice to her.
To end the effect of the Siren's song, you'd need to either kill her or do the counter quest to take her voice away.
Possibilities for what returning her voice to her does:
1. All creatures with loyalties in the Inner Sea (kelpies, etc) to become loyal to the organization you are from.
2. All creatures in the Inner Sea to become loyal to the organization you are from.
3. Willpower drain for those not from the org of the raiser. (Celest raising the Siren would make enemies of Celest lose willpower whenever the Siren's song ticks)
Ideally, every couple of seconds her song would tick off for those in the Inner Sea, anyway. Maybe she could sing a different tune based on which org raised her.
"Too much work to code" is a good enough reason for this not to go through, but, it's an idea, isn't it? Yay? Nay? Remember to include why!

It's a good idea, but it's too Presidio-y for me, and celest would just keep it spammed all the time

Marani (sp?) is annoying enough, thanks.
Kiradawea2009-01-19 02:22:45
Don't know enough about what Marani actually does to comment on this but... even then I'll have to say no. It is a quest that does nothing but hurt Celest. Celest uses the Inner sea for everything regarding the star. They need the sand from the isle of light, they help the kelpies to prevent the Ship of the Dead from being raised. They stave of the mutant kelpies. They light the spire for their prophecy quest. Etc. If you want to add it, it should be added in a neutral territory.

What would prevent Celest from doing the quest for the Siren? I don't think it would be against their RP to do it...

Celest gets zero benefit, but has to continually do the quest to stop them from getting screwed?

Well, I said that the exacts weren't worked out. I suggested some ideas for what the Siren's song could do. It wasn't a closed idea. The idea is open for creative input.

Slowly, passively lure everyone in the Inner Sea to an island filled with high level mobs?

It's like a giant whirlpool of the greatest song the Basin has ever heard so everyone slowly gets sucked into it's greatness.
and dies.

If I recall, she has power drain, and the longer she's up, the stronger/father it goes. Eventually, she becomes tougher than the Half-formed, if I recall.
Yeah, see. This is the problem with basing everything around the ocean. She will either help you, or utterly crush you. Celest's fault here, really. Shoulda came to Mag and got Earth. Don't have to worry about basing most of your quests on oceanic locales instead of spread out through the Basin. I'm totally calling bluff here.
On a more serious notation, it sounds like a good idea, but it could be abused. But it does indeed sound really, really neat.
(Maybe she could wander around, and members of the opposite sex are forced to follow her for a bit while she drains so much ego and then travels to her lair until they reach 0 willpower and she kills them. But up to x people. So you can have a rescue squad and everything, and people being kidnapped, and all sorts of fun things instead of "E, e, s, *boom* *blargh, I am ded* Pray for salvation. Looks like someone got axed by so-and-so, let's go kill her." More akin to being trapped in her spell, and every so often allow a few seconds for them to shout for help or try to run away.)
Cupcakes?

anything in the inner sea favors celest to much.

In my opinion there is simply too much in that whole area anyways. You've got Bondero Bay right there, Balach, the Isle of Light, the whole Star of Celest thing, Ship of the Dead, Ladantine. (Yes I pooled in the Sea of Despair too).
Adding this would just dump more stuff in a place where stuff should not be dumped. It is akin to trying to shove a pile of dirty clothes under one's bed when said bed is already two feet off the ground because there are so many clothes underneath it.

Well, I thought it would be a fun addition.

Make the Siren have a cave someplace up a river behind a waterfall or sommat. She goes around, traveling outside of Org territory for so long looking for people and then travels on her way back. Or, she's just stationed in the waterfall/cave, and people come to her.
Unknown2009-01-19 02:58:21
Well I mean... the reason I said the Inner Sea was because some Celestians could get on a boat to head to the Isle of Light, and the boat-dude (forgot his name) could be lured in by the song of the Siren, and it would be an uber awesome RP opportunity for some of the younger players of the game, and would allow some younger players to discover a new area and even be mentioned in an events newspost.
