A lot of ceremony, certainly. And Arethra Franklin and Yo-Yo Ma provided the music, even!

But what did you guys think of the real reason so many turned out to see the election: What did you think of Obama's speech/oath?
Or you can just schmooze about everything else. It was quite an event.

My favourite part was handsdown the John Williams composition. tongue.gif

I giggled at the little flub during Obama's oath. How embarrassing on live national TV/streaming internet! comfort.gif

But, I thought it was a very good speech. I always think Obama's speeches are awesome, he really does know how to give a good speech. wub.gif

Loved that old reverend and his rhymes.

The red man can get ahead.

I think he was just nervous as hell tongue.gif

You would be too. I mean, hey, I'm pretty reckless and I don't really care what people think. But even I'd have sweaty palms if I had to fill the shoes that Obama has to fill.

I know! Poor guy! wub.gif I'd have died right there if it was me. Of course, if it were me, I'd never have made it to the stage, I'd have fainted on the steps, but still. laugh.gif

I live in DC just a few blocks from the capital and trust me when i say the entire city is buzzing with excitement. People are still walking back past me, meaning they only recently left the mall.

I've never seen people packed in like that from the capital to the Lincoln Memorial before. I'm not sure most people appreciate how long of a distance that is but i'm good shape, and if I walked it, i'd take a cab back. It was amazing.
Noola2009-01-20 18:34:50
Yeah, the crowd was awesome. I wish I coulda been there. Watching it on tv (or the net) is great and all, but being there... that would have been amazing.

Edit: Ugh, damn it. I posted in the wrong area. Wtf am I on?!
:/
Some mods care to move this and spare my dignity, what little is left?

Dignity spared. I haven't had an opportunity to watch it yet. I will do so when I get home.

I didn't attend the inauguration due to work, but I'm going to the RNC gala tonight. Black tie event = pain to get dressed for.

The inauguration has a lot of fanfare, but I'm hoping he can pull us out of the recession. Iraq is a secondary concern.

Ann Althouse believes it was the Chief Justice that screwed up the oath:

QUOTE
12:37: The Chief Justice in fact screwed up the oath. The Constitution requires:
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Roberts left out the word "faithfully." (He also said "President to the United States.") Obama saw the mistake and stopped himself to give Roberts a chance to fix it. Roberts redid the line, remembering to throw in "faithfully," but putting it in the wrong place — after "President of the United States" — and, this time, Obama went along with the wording. Close enough, I guess he figured. I wonder what Barack Obama was thinking.

Interesting word choices in several parts of his speech.

And I wait and see what fun occurs from this event.

Never trust a politician's words, and hold their actions in suspicion.

But this should be really, really fun to watch. I'm hoping for a smooth ride, but it'll be interesting (In a bad way) to see if this train gets wrecked.

Elaborate, Sadhyra. I want to hear moar.
Oh, also - I was only 10 when Bush was inaugurated, so I don't really remember much from that, but does anyone remember his ceremony very well? How does it compare with this one?
