Background: Nys had help finding her way to the Verasavir valley, having never been there before, but hearing about the plight of the ghost-wolves, decided she would lend her aid to the wolves, seeking sweet vengeance upon the Taurian.

Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "What are you
doing?"
You blink.
You say, "I want to help the ghost-wolves..."
You peer about yourself unscrupulously.
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "To what purpose?"
You say, "So they can reclaim what was taken from them by the taurien."
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "Why are you the
person to assist them in this?"
You ponder the situation.
You say, "That's a good question."
You ask, "Perhaps... because I am here?"
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "Your answer
requires further argumentation."
You pause for a second in contemplation.
You say, "From what I have heard, the ghost-wolves have been wronged. And they
are of Nature. Not Wyrded nature, to be sure, but nature all the same."
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "Define nature."
You say, "That which is not crafted by the hands of mortals."
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "Than the
creatures of Astral are of nature."
You say, "To be honest, I don't really know much about Astral."
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "Very well. Then
by your reasoning the Elder Gods are unnatural."
You blink.
Taken aback, you say, "I do not mean to say such a thing.."
You say, "But, if by my reasoning, the Elder Gods are unnatural, they had to
have been crafted by mortal hands."
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "Then I do believe
your definition is in need of rectification."
A subtle sense of bemusement creeps into the vicinity.
You blush furiously.
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "Ah, indeed. What
am I saying. I do believe you have stumbled upon a misconception of Mine."
You have emoted: Nys surpresses a smile.
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "Very well then,
by your reasoning, Kethuru is natural. Would you agree with your own
estimation?"
You crease your brow in a frown.
You say, "No! Of course not."
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "Then Kethuru was
crafted by morals?"
With a pained look, you say, "Perhaps I need to elaborate on my definition of
Nature.."
You say, "But I'm not sure I have the right words to explain what I know in my
heart."
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "Then you would
argue that anything you deem natural is natural?"
You blush furiously.
You say, "No... I wouldn't go that far."
The air vibrates with a profound sense of amusement.
You have emoted: Nys places her fingertips to her temples.
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "I do then believe
that your definition needs work, if you intend to base your reasoning and
argumentation on such."
Ruefully, you say, "I do have a tendency to speak before fully thinking things
through.."
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "Then ponder it
some and perhaps we shall speak again."
The energy suddenly lifts, leaving a strange feeling of bereavement.

All fish live in the sea. Ergo, all that lives in the sea is a fish.

Elostian. He doesn't quite tease Saaga like that anymore, though. I like how he randomly "pesters" people, actually engaging them in meaningful conversation.
Nerra2009-01-22 21:04:36
Kethuru is natural though! Natural = anything alive. It gets fudgy at times, but perhaps our language is incapable of fully defining it, much like something such as "blue"

How weird. Isn't it Lusternian mythos that "Nature" is anything that gains existence/sustanance from the Ethereal plane?

There are as many interpretations of what 'Nature' is as there are players. Just as there are many interpretations of what is 'Good' and 'Evil' and 'Pure' and 'Corrupt' and all those subjective qualifiers.
What you've suggested is a valid personal belief, though no more objectively correct than anything else.

edit: I also think that was one of the main points of the tainted Fae event way back when. I'm sure someone who has read the histories more lately than I could remind me what I'm remembering.

QUOTE
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "What are you
doing?"
You get up off a long black leather couch.
You hop about the area madly.
A quiet chuckle emanates from the aether.
You have emoted: Caerulo glances around the room.
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "Are you going to
answer?"
You say, "Ah, well, I was thinking. Very hard."
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "On what?"
You say, "Mother Night and colour."
You say, "I'm sorry, I don't tend to trust voices that appear to have no
sources."
You have emoted: Caerulo continues to sweep the area with his eyes.
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "Everything has a
source, therefore your statement would appear paradoxical."
You say, "Ah, but I did mention 'appear', didn't I?"
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "What did you
consider concerning the colour of mother night?"
You ponder the situation.
You say, "When Mother Night's gracious shadows fall on anything, their colours
mute in respect of her power."
You say, "Also, Mother Night's favoured colour is black. Is it not true that
black is composed of all other colours? Even though I am not an artist, one
learns early in life that when many paints are mixed together, the end result is
black."
You say, "Of course, as I've mentioned, this train of thought is still in the
process of being polished, and not quite perfectly explained."
You say, "I've yet to have brought those observations to any conclusions."
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "Is night just
black or is it merely the absence of colour?"
You scratch your head looking for an idea.
You say, "So, is Night the absence of colour, or is it the sum of all colours,
hrm?"
You ponder the situation.
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "If night is the
sum of all colours, why do all colours fade to back when she appears?"
You say, "Wouldn't red tint turn black should you pour ink on it? Similarly,
Night's shadows would act as the black paint of the tapestry of the Basin."
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "Yes, but one
cannot remove the black tint after having added it. Night eventually retreats,
leaving the original colour."
Caerulo nods his head as he ponders carefully.
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "You ponder your
answers well, it would seem."
A quiet chuckle emanates from the aether.
You say, "Far too carefully, I should say myself."
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "How would you
retort to My earlier statement then?"
You smile and say, "As it is, I'm still thinking on it."
An amused laughter emanates from the aether.
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "Then ponder on
it, and I shall return for an answer at a later time."
You nod your head.
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "You consider well
and do indeed think deep. This pleases Me."
Elostian, the Enigma has bestowed His divine strongfavour upon you. It will last
for 3 days.
Comprehension flashes across your face.
Emanating from the aether, a sonorous multi-toned voice says, "We shall speak
again."
You nod your head.
With a flourish of your arm, you bow deeply.
You sit yourself down on a long black leather couch and make yourself
comfortable.
You scratch your head looking for an idea.

'Nature' is a thing, all those other words you used were just concepts.
It's not that cut and dry, when the tainted fae were wandering around the basin/Faethorn, or when Glomdoring was Tainted, did that reveal that Taint was a part of Nature? What about the areas that do not have an Ethereal reflection that has yet been revealed, like the deserts or valleys or mountain ranges, are they unnatural? What about the catacombs of the dead, and the ruins of Shallach, is that area and the undead within entirely natural because it is linked to the Ethereal plane? Are the Ur'guard the closest guild to Nature because they actually have a past tied directly to existence on the Ethereal plane? What about 'Light' and 'Taint', these are actual things as well that aren't always defined simply.
After all, Hartstone/Blacktalon bridge the physical and ethereal worlds to allow glimpses of Ethereal/Wyrd forest from the prime plane, yet we know that Nature rebels against this ability, and abhors it.
There are a lot of interpretations that can be made, you can't say that every character viewpoint that doesn't agree with your player interpretation is necessarily wrong or contradictory. Just different, you have to keep an open mind and remember that there is a lot of depth in these concepts and there are multiple ways you can set up your character to define them.
I know this is a big digression and apologies... I just dislike when people assume that their beliefs are correct and everyone else should believe the same thing or they're wrong. It's one of the worst qualities of many organizations, particularly fundamentalist religion.
I liked the original log a lot, you're lucky to have such a great Patron that prompts you to question these things!

He's not my Patron (Nys follows another Divine, not telling who )
He just happened to pick me to talk to, I guess.
I was definately not prepared for a conversation this heavy. I was rather disappointed that I didn't go further with what I was given.

Elostian picks random people to talk to I suppose. Caerulo doesn't follow Elostian either. That's part of what makes him so awesome.
Edit: It was great timing too. I really was thinking on that subject for a guild lecture or ritual, and he happened to pop up, so I at least had a teensy bit of material to start with, unlike poor Nys who was 'jumped' by Elostian.

On the topic of nature, I have an alt who's RP is based very heavily on the circle of life and death. Basically, Nature cannot consist of merely life, as it has limited resources. Thus, nature requires death and decay to recycle these nutrients and resources. Hence, without death, there will be no life, and without life, there is no death.
Actually, I believe that ancient Lusternian mythology is rather heavily based on Hinduism. Yudhe would be Brahman, Dynara would be Brahma, and Magnora would be Shiva. The nameless son seems very likely to be Vishnu, although it is not as clear cut as the others.
From Wikipedia:
These manifestations are that of Brahma (serving the cosmic function of creation), Vishnu (serving the cosmic function of renewal and preservation), and Shiva (serving the cosmic function of dissolution or destruction that precedes re-creation)
Therefore, if the Heralds of Magnora are unnatural, would that make fungi and such to be unnatural?
