So, I was thinking about a possible way that Demigods, those who have essentially won the 'normal' level of the game, might get a chance to demonstrate their expertise and try other roles. Here is my suggestion, let me know what you think!
It was just a little idea that I was having as I was driving home, that I thought would be an interesting way of reengaging Demigods in mortal conflicts as well as giving them a bonus of trying other classes. It's probably far too complex and problematic to ever be implemented, but I think it would be fun!
The other thought I had was perhaps incarnating into a limited set of NPCs with certain abilities that could fight in particular roles against other players, somewhat akin to admin inhabitation for roleplay. That's probably more limiting for most combatants though.
CODE
INCARNATION
Having inflamed the spark of their divinity to its greatest potential, the most powerful of Demigods can temporarily forgo corporeal form and instead manifest their essence into the form of another mortal. This new incarnation is but a fraction of the Demigod's consciousness partitioned from the rest, and thus may act in a way that is quite unlike their true nature. The incarnation will be unable to access the memories or insights of their Demigod self, nor make use of their powers and bonuses as this form is merely a limited mortal frame. Similarly, the Demigod will have only the haziest recollection of experiences in one of their incarnations and will be unable to glean any meaningful information from their time again as a mortal.
Each Demigod may fashion up to three Incarnations at one time, each with a unique name and appearance. Note that these names cannot be the same as any other mortal that exists in Lusternia, and the creation of each incarnation is achieved through the command MANIFEST INCARNATION CREATE AS . For example:
MANIFEST INCARNATION Bobby CREATE AS Male
(That name is already taken, please try again.)
To imbue each incarnation with form, you may MANIFEST INCARNATION APPEARANCE . This description can be changed as many times as you like, and will look like:
is a and .
You may view the details of your incarnations using the INCARNATIONS command, which will list the names of your Incarnations along with their descriptions. For example:
- INCARNATIONS
==========================================================
Name:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Bobby (male)
Age:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 25
Guild:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â (none)
Description        appears to be a nondescript human with a tanned
                    complexion and dark hair.
==========================================================
When you choose to imbue yourself in a particular form, you must have significant essence prepared as well as at least 50% energy reserves, and then INCARNATE INTO AS . This will have the following effects:
- your appearance and name will change to that of your Incarnation
- you will lose all defences
- you will be unable to use guild or demigod granted skills or bonuses
- your effective experience level will be set to 80
- you will be unable to communicate on all channels to which you formerly had access, and instead will be able to talk on your Incarnation's city or commune channel and guild channel only
- you will be able to choose 3 skills appropriate to the guild selection of your incarnation (see below)
- you will join the nation channel of your incarnation's guild, and your arrival will be announced to your new compatriots (for example, (Serenwilde): A new wanderer, Bobby, has appeared in the Serenwilde as a member of the Hartstone. )
You may return to Demigod form at any time by using MANIFEST SELF, which will remove all of your defences and also return you to the Divine Havens.
Notes:
* When you SKILLCHOICE SELECT, you will gain mythical knowledge automatically without lesson expense, but will be unable to increase your skill level further.
* Any created items that bear the mark of your Incarnation will be destroyed when you MANIFEST SELF.
* While in Incarnation form, you will appear as having special guildrank and cityrank of zero, and may not be favoured by either city or guild leaders. The only privilege that may be targetted towards you is the OUTCITIZEN or OUTGUILD commands of commune or guild leaders as normal.
* Your honours will be concealed from view while in Incarnation form, such as:
  HONOURS BOBBY
Curiously, you know almost nothing about the origins of that person.
* You will not be able to incarnate into any organization which considers you an enemy.
* You will not be able to read news postings of your Incarnation's guild or nation.
* You will not be able to link to the nation nexus while in an Incarnation.
* While in Incarnation form, you will be held to a high standard of roleplaying. If you abuse this form to cause disruption to another guild or nation, you may find yourself locked in your own corporeal form.

Demigod essence shop plz.
Sorry, I don't quite follow!

There was an idea suggested a while ago that there be a shop for demigods. Demigods would basically begin with no powers, but will be able to purchase their powers at the cost of essence.
Also, this idea is completely open to abuse.

I did try to close most of the loopholes that would encourage abuse, are there specific cases you were thinking of?
Also, does anyone have the link for the essence shop thread, out of curiousity? Would be wonderful to read, and a quick search didn't seem to bring it up.
Edit: Ooo, nevermind. I found it... very cool customization effects there! I like the shop idea a lot and would hope it gets implemented, but it's not really to do with trying other class' combat. If it's the 'Demigod flavour' thread, that is.

Welcome to ascendancy, with the exception of a couple powers outside cult and a couple inside (that most ascendants can't use anyways), it ain't nothing to write home about.
Shiri2009-01-25 09:16:49
The powers in question were things like "custom entrance" and "custom appearance on QL" as I remember it. Not even as useful as the couple of worthwhile things in ascendance, just for coolness since demis don't have a lot else to do with their essence.

Solution: Make consumption not suck. Then I can think of some uses for their essence >.>
