I downloaded it last week. Still working on just building my first fortress. On my third restart.

Went through a period where I played it... a lot. This game is amazing - the amount of effort put into it is stunning, and it is often (intentionally and unintentionally) hilarious.

I played it religiously before my other computer died, and this one doesn't have the muscle to run it at more than 10 FPS.

Oh sweet christ yes. /tg/ got me addicted. Building a "F**K the world" device should be the ultimate goal of any DORF fortress.

The bloke who made it is a fairly high order autistic.

How do you play it? My dwarves sat around in the wagon and died.

My partner is somewhat obsessive over DF (although like me he spends as much time browsing the forums as playing, heh). We just received the supporter's thing in the mail where Toady draws something on paper for you, which I thought was a nifty idea. I'd love to receive a random scribble signed by Estarra! wub.gif

I have a lot of trouble getting into it myself, inevitably the key dwarf that just loves to carry the essential survival tools of the settlement every time he goes for a drink ends up besieged by rampaging mutant carp and gets slaughtered. sad.gif

Wow! I thought I'd be the only one who'd heard of it, this game is aaamazing. I have been playing it for probably a year or two, on and off, and it's really come a long way since then.

generally I just spend waaay too long making base defences (although this turned out really well when I got attacked by a BRONZE COLOSSUS! and annihilated him (now that was scary)

great fun, I find I tend to have it running in the background so the dwarves take care of themselves mostly.

Remember: A "F**K the world" lever is your final goal. This lever should flood the world with lava.

Or you can just change the files so that all cats cause a thermonuclear explosion and their bodyparts scatter, causing more explosions, destroying the world. Or, rather, reducing it to ash.

I used to play it awhile ago, but I could never get the hang of it.

When I started playing, I did it the hard way, through trial and error. This took approximately 25 hours of playtime before I began to grasp any concept of what I was doing. But then I decided to read the Boatmurdered 'Let's Play', which can be very useful in teaching newbies what they need to do to start up their fortress whilst being extremely entertaining. In fact, I always suggest to anyone wanting to start playing DF that they should read Boatmurdered first. It will both educate and motivate you to play.

Of course, second thing you should do after reading Boatmurdered is to read the DF wiki. And then keep it open as you play. For reference.
