Discuss.

Psh. The other 5 or 6 times this exact class has come up there's at least been an attempt at a skillset.
Prisch2009-02-03 07:04:55
I tried searching, nothing showed up. My bad.
Thought it would be interesting to talk about.

Huh. The search engine must not be working for you then, cause I searched "archer" and got a topic each by Genos, Marina, Myrkr and Alaskar, amongst other "what other classes should there be" threads.

Feel free to lock it then if you feel it is needed O benevolent furrikin.

The reasons given as to why archers will never come out usually are...
1. Too much time to code.
2. Coding should be focused on "more important" things.
3. There's not enough players to handle another guild.
4. If it's a spec for Warriors, people will say Lusternia is too unbalanced as it is.
5. Attacking from rooms away can be OP and abused.
Don't worry. I tried an archer thread once and it was shot down (Pardon the Pun)... and I think I had a skillset going, too!

Personally, I find archers boring. Perhaps that's why I'm not a warrior, but, I feel that there can be more interesting archetypes.
Casilu2009-02-03 08:45:27
I remember massive combat on Achaea, it was just archers wailing on each other. It sucked.

It was archers plus the friendly neighborhood Linnia and her javelins! Man, I miss that.
Saaga2009-02-03 09:19:32
No more classes, new orgs please!
Unknown2009-02-03 12:53:58
Lusternia can barely keep afloat its 20 guilds/4 orgs right now. Listening to Celina's wailing and Glomdoring's suckage, I'm sure even Celenwilde can see the problems raised by new groups.

Archers, woo!
Lets get them themed after the FFT archers, those were great. I started a single class playthrough with them, but never got around to finishing.

I don't want archery as an archetype. I want it as a common skill or artifact! (In other words, I really, really want to use a bow and arrow, but I'm really, really afraid they won't let warriors use them.)

I feel that deep down in my heart, a bandit/archer/ranger class that uses daggers or bows is missing in Lusternia. That would be ideal though.

I mostly remember meteors RAINING DOWN ON MY HEAD! AHHHHHHHHHH.
Prisch2009-02-03 19:28:13
Maybe if you made rangers a dagger+bow class, with archery as a secondary skill for preemptive combat purposes it'd be less. OP.
Unknown2009-02-03 19:44:49
Actually raids were mostly...
CHOKECHOKECHOKE DEAD.
...Not really that different from Lusternia's, at least when fighting Glom.

That's what everyone said about musical instruments!
On the other hand, Estarra's early notes speak of five classes/guilds per nations, so we probably have all the guilds we're getting, apart from the equivalents in the other three nations. And given how warrior Knighthood specs have worked so far, I doubt they'd put archery into a specialization that only was available to Gaudiguch warriors.
On the other other hand, that doesn't mean they won't be putting it into another class. But really, do bows make sense as the weapon for any monk, bard, mage, wiccan, guardian, or druid guild, in Ackleberry, Gaudiguch, or Hallifax? (Well, maybe monk, but I doubt it, doesn't fit that well with hand-to-hand.)
On the fourth hand, that means there's probably no plans for archery. And maybe that's not so bad. We have a fair balance now between "nester" classes (want you to come to them) and "mobile" classes (can take their fights anywhere), and between ranged and non-ranged attacks. (Or if anything, it should go towards less nesting and less ranged, not more.)

There's a part of me that doubts that, only based on the existence of polearms. I think there's another warrior spec or two out there, and not every org was intended to have every weapon spec available to them. Estarra's early interview with Gamer Girl indicated two physical archetypes, not three, sooo...

I envoyed shield scabbards in the past and it was denied on the basis that the admin intended to do a sword/shield spec one day, so....
