and you're entitled to your opinion.

But I'm still insulted.

Be insulted, then.

Consider it done.

This is quite likely rude of me, but in theory would put the matter to "rest"; whether the judges for the artisanals see it one way or the other is completely up to them.

This is the professional image, and the mspaint image atop it, at about 60% transparency.

EDIT: Bottom image is 525 x 601 pixels; top image is 524 x 594 pixels.

Like I said, it looks the same to me. Christ, if this is what it takes to go win Artisanals..

Well, yes. I'd imagine that the lines would not match up quite so precisely if there was no tracing involved.
Desitrus2009-03-10 15:17:31
Gosh, girls and their drama.

More like 90%. Same concept..

Tracing was bad wording, maybe. Copied.. not so much bad as obvious just by looking at it. Reference picture, whatever, it's still the same thing in my eyes.

Why this got runner up is the only question on my mind. It's good, but it's not identifiably a Lusternian themed piece.. huh.gif

Amatsemaru: Traced or not the piece is really close to the original. There's nothing wrong with using a reference photo, but there is a big difference between making something your own and just copying something. I'm not saying this to be mean, because you spent a lot of time on this. It's not fair for your work to be judged the same as other people's when you copied it almost completely. I'd hate to see a bunch of original drawings get turned down for a prize in place of copied work. Again, I know you put a lot of work into this, but you have to be able to make drawings your own. After seeing how closely your work was to the other work I'd have to say no, I wouldn't have given you a prize.

I've notice that a lot of pieces that win aren't identifiably Lusternian. I think the big problem comes when something is definitely not Lusternian rather than the other way around. If someone is drawing something that's OOC then it would get disqualified. Even fantasy things that aren't in game would disqualify a piece. Also I think things that have something that's more Lusternian (Like specific Divine, or events) have a better chance of winning. It's almost impossible to make a piece that's strictly Lusternian and couldn't apply to somewhere else. My recent painting of Noc could be any strange being peering from the shadows, and Saaga's painting could be of the Swan Princess. Just because it can be mistaken for something else, doesn't mean it shouldn't win a prize.
Saaga2009-03-10 17:01:00
Small things make your picture relate more - for example, Eirlys is healing Saaga's ego with the golden glow and all - this makes it more Lusternian. As for your Nys, Amatsemaru, I do not know what to say. You obviously spent a lot of time on it, as Fania said, but it is just too close. When using a reference image, I think it is alright to "take" (by this I mean using something as a "model") small parts of it - for example, I had no idea how to draw a swan's bill. It may be a good idea to use multiple reference images for your work, and use them just as reference material (keeping both images up as you draw, good, snatching a certain colour from some photograph, good) instead of tracing or copying.

Other than that, I have no idea what to say. You have my sentiments, but... I can see why people are angry.

EDIT: The Swan Princess? dazed.gif Is that a movie?

Kids are so cute. Yes, it has been made into a movie, but it actually started out as a ballet.
Saaga2009-03-10 17:44:59
Was it made from Swan Lake, then? Sorry for the derail, let's stick to the topic. I try!

You guys are far more nice than me. I'm going to be blunt and just cite HELP BARDICS:

I'm not nice! I just don't have any energy to produce venom.

I wonder what the rules are for things like repainted dolls, or clothing or some such if the doll is just used as the model. suspicious.gif
Saaga2009-03-10 17:57:43
You mean like, porcelain dolls you paint yourself?

EDIT: Or recreation of Lusternian clothing attire, photographed on a model doll such as this?

I mean like a Barbie doll or some such, with the caveat of "Ignore the doll, it's just there so that I'm not laying a piece of clothing flat on the ground and photographing it."

EDIT: Estarra told me it's OK as long as the "DON'T LOOK AT THE DOLL" is obvious :>

Amat, this makes me sad.
I wish you had told me about the reference picture before you submitted it. I would have told you not to.
I know you put effort into this, because we were talking when you were stressing, but it's like... you almost hid the fact that there was a reference untill you got called out for it. This doesn't look good.
I really hope you don't get shrubbed for a silly mistake, like I did. : (
Unknown2009-03-11 02:26:11
Lol. Silly mistake, character sharing to mess with elections. Same thing, amirite?
Xavius2009-03-11 02:42:52
Wow. The overlaid transparency pretty much kills the argument. You're right, that's not tracing, that's copy and paste. Pixel by pixel identical on the key features.

That's what I mean, the princess from Swan Lake. I didn't think that you were that young. tongue.gif

Didn't notice this thread until someone pointed me to it--what I meant was we'd judge the clothes, not the doll (who I assume would be modeling the clothes)!

I assume that the administration have already made their decision, so now we all know what not to do for bardic submissions.
