I would not mind Dwarves (and maybe Dracnari if that idea went through) getting a natural bonus to Forging, on a serious note.
However, back to the point at hand: FIX FORGING, HOLY CRAP. It's been 11 pages of this and we've got absolutely nothing, not even a whisper, a peep, anything (well no, technically not true).

Yes. Fix forging. Use our ideas. Use your own ideas. Scrap the system. Write a new interface to the system. I don't care. Forging is ridiculous, and it not being resolved after years of complaints is unreasonable.

I would like to point to this: http://xieltalnara.googlepages.com/stateof...iameetingrecord
Especially:
Estarra, the Eternal says, "Ok forging i'll make some comments on."
Estarra, the Eternal says, "One, we were going to do an internal review of
forging but that said 1) not *that* many people have forging, and 2) antyhing
that screws with the weapons stats will be VERY painful (and we need as many
forgings to get the right span) and 3) forging code is extremely hard to work in
which is not your concern but it puts us off in its priority."
Roark Libertas says, "Which goes to Estarra's point: Forging code is extrmely
difficult to work with because we reused Achaea's junk."
Estarra, the Eternal says, "Ok can we just leave it that we are aware that
forging sucks but do still have on the table doing an internal review."
and so on and so forth.

Well, it's nice to know that it has at least been mentioned.
However, it's of little comfort when the solution was, "It's on the table".

Forging is designed to make you buy a mallet, that's why there isn't going to be any changes.
Unknown2009-03-25 07:30:18
That's what it seems like.. and I really can't afford to do anything like that as of yet
Gero2009-03-25 07:44:29
So from what I heard the core of forging isn't going to change, at least any time soon. So let's try and make some add ons that make the skill a little better.
1) Give forger's an extra strength point.
Since all forgers can use it and it's rp acceptable, who's ever seen a weak blacksmith?
2) Allow them to bind to weapons much like masterarmour
Why are we able to bind armour but not weapons?
3) If not bind, allow transcendent forgers to gain a passive bouns to weapons
We know weapons so well, we can better use them.
4) Add repairs for weapons
Add more months
5) Polearms
Who has ever forged one, let alone someone else seen one?
I'm just throwing out some ideas that would make us a little happier since our skill is a temporal female dog.

Increased effectiveness and/or duration of etched coal runes (if not passive increase at trans).
Binding to a weapon should be exactly the same as masterarmour. Boost the stats, only the forger can wield it, and it becomes a permanent item. This seems to be both reasonable (there's already precedence for this with masterarmour) and will not simply up the market normal stats, because only the forger can wield it.
Allow more than one forger to work at a forge. It's irritating enough that it takes days to forge something, but even more irritating when you can't because someone else is working at the forge already.

Maybe allow more than one forger at a time to work on a single project, two people hammering it out. One swings, the other swings while the other is bring their mallet up.

There's actually some truth in this. It's common practice to have a team of people work on forging traditional weaponry.
Simimi2009-03-25 12:39:29
Maybe a coal rune for +1 strength. I would love the weapon bind idea also.

The fact that not 'that' many people have Forging should NOT BE A REASON TO LOWER ITS PRIORITY. In fact, it should be telling of the issues involved in the skill - not many people want to deal with the mess involved with the skill.

Well, I think that was a polite way of saying, "We don't care."
Simimi2009-03-26 00:37:27
The same lack of people being an issue, as Rodngar said could be applied to Hunting also...
Unknown2009-03-26 00:40:20
So many people hate forging in its current state.
Simimi2009-03-26 00:43:26
I think forging will be sweet once I hit 80, I can't wait.

Yeah, what they really want you to do is buy a manse, get the manse forge, buy the artifact that removes your need for food or sleep and buy a mallet of forging, then just go afk for a week.
Simimi2009-03-26 01:00:23
mallet I have. I'm cool with AFK for a week if they are cool with turning the other cheek. This forging a few hours a day is for the birds.

Come 2 Mag, I'll bash you up to 80 so you can forge me a good chain
