Improved Forging.

Too bad alot of forgers already do that, and all of the complaints about forging is from people trying to forge something for themselves anyways. tongue.gif It'd be like "Forging sucks, I can't make anything good for myself. I'm going to only forge good stuff for myself until this gets changed!"
Gero2009-03-05 02:25:05
I just forged 92 91 plate and masterarmoured it, and now it's gone no idea where it went or how it happened. It's really weird because had it this morning and was wearing it and never left the commune and when I came back it was gone. So I'm a little pissed at forging.
Rika2009-03-05 03:38:55
The reason is, I assume, "too hard to code".

I say we call a forging strike, refuse to forge for anyone but ourselves until it gets changed. ban.gif

This assumes we have the time to forge for others - we're using all our time forging for ourselves. scream.gif

Generally, when the admin flat-out refuse any suggestions for changing a skillset, it means they have their own plans for it. See: Riding.
Gero2009-03-05 05:02:54
That would be wonderful, but I doubt it since nothing has ever been done to forging expect mess with a few caps and mess with what stats do.

Does this mean we're going to switch to a system where I train a forging midget?

I will name mine Tim-Tom and Kevin. They will carry stilettos and knife people for me.
Gero2009-03-11 03:20:24
Fix forging! Really, I think anyone who doesn't think forging should be changed, needs to be forced to forge 90 90 plate. Honestly I don't even want to play any more because of one retarded aspect of the game.

I've been trying to forge a 'perfect' speed one-handed kata weapon to hold on to for a set to prepare for any contingency.

I have yet to produce this kata weapon. I don't HAVE to forge for this weapon, but I am - just to see how long it would take, for the sake of evidence to use in a discussion on weapon forging. Monks, depending on spec I'm told, might NEED these high speed weapons - how the hell are they expected to get them?

Me and another forger seem to agree it's outside of the realm of practical possibility without a mallet - and I can't imagine it's any less excruciating WITH a mallet involved, either.

Let's be serious: Forging is garbage, and it should be changed. Why hasn't this been envoyed or brought up en masse?

EDIT: I am on ATTEMPT: 14386 since beginning this weapon when I decided to change patterns a few days ago. Really, what the hell?

EDIT2: Also, I am aware that obtaining the highest speed on a weapon should not be easy - but this is far beyond the reaches of hard. It's been 2 days, 3 hours, and 45 minutes since I changed pattern this week to make an attempt at forging this weapon.. 2 days, 3 hours, 45 minutes and counting of near constant log-in time forging.
Gero2009-03-11 03:47:28
| Sanity : completely sane <---Complete lies, because I keep forging.

We've had threads on this exact topic, in depth. Kata weapons make for fun maths just because you're going for one stat, rather than a debatable mix, as in knight weapons.

With your one handers, you need the mallet to even stand a ghost of a chance. With a mallet, I forged for a week and didn't get one- it can still vary wildly.

BUT, be thankful, ever so thankful, that you're only going for a pair of 110 speed weapons. Two handed kata weapons need a 220 for equivalence, and that is exponentially more difficult to obtain than your one hander, with or without a mallet. There are a few 218's floating around, and by "a few" I mean, two or three, spread between both cities.

Comparatively, sets of 110 are expensive toys, but not the statistical anomaly that is 220s.

I'm borrowing a mallet now and I've gotten a 106 speed product several times. Just.. four more points.. :/

I never did hit anything above 106 on any of my thousands of attempts. Basically you have to hit speed on every forge once you begin forging, and you only have a 33.3333% chance of hitting speed on any one of those forges...
Rodngar2009-03-11 04:14:57
I've gotten 109 and 108. Many, many times.

Not trying to be rude here, but I'm really curious as to why no admin will post anything on the subject. It'd really be nice to know I didn't blow cash on 300 credits only to be completely ignored when pointing out a flaw that virtually everyone acknowledges, and that ruins my playtime for for countless hours at a time. I honestly feel a complete fool for spending money on forging as is. I wish someone had told me beforehand.

Bah, wish I'd spent the creds on discipline instead.
Gero2009-03-11 04:19:55
We know how difficult it is to forge, but let's get a fix going, something, anything really.
Rodngar2009-03-11 04:38:22
We've tried to propose solutions, but in the end, I think that the silence from the Admin implies not that they aren't reading, but that they've seen it and registered it.

I just don't understand why it isn't a high profile problem, considering weapons are the central point for one class, and to a sliiightly smaller extent, the central point of another class. The statistics of a weapon generally figures in to the formula of just how effective your skills are in a dumbed down mechanical sense. Making it excruciatingly boring, impossible, or requiring a 400 credit investment to get anywhere NEAR the statistics you need is definitely not a great way to make the skill set work. I do not enjoy a time sink being built in to the requirements for my class to be competitive - it's not good design, nor is it in any way fun.

EDIT: Nor is it a good way to encourage me to spend that 400 credits on the mallet. Sure, it could make this process easier: but I already have things to spend that money on, and if I spend it on credits for some reason, it isn't going to be on something so narrowly useful as a Mallet of Forging. So I can produce my weapons - but then what? Do I sell the mallet back? Really, it's just not worth the money spent when the money implied is over a hundred dollars.

You know, the Serenguard gets a lot of braves.

And a lot of knights choose forging. And I do warn them, but I don't tell them it's a bad idea. Apart from the whole "don't tell people what skills to take thing", little Brave Forgems McGee has already decided that they're going to be a great forger, no matter what. So I just smile, and make small talk and even lend them my mallet as they scurry off to one of our two guild forges, spirits high, and confident that they're going to make a truly great weapon.

Only later, when their incognizant form is found swinging at the air, their face blank, their eyes dry and tear-ducts long shriveled, do they understand.

It's one of those things people have to learn the hard way. So don't take it too badly. There has been rant after rant about forging, just do a few searches. And yes, it is insane.

Yeah, I know. I understand that it's a long-time problem. I understand that I'm not the only one suffering for it. I truly feel bad for the novices who say to themselves, "Hey, awesome! I can forge my own weapons, and help out my guild by forging for them too!" and proceed to get raped for 300 credits worth of bitter frustration (or 700 credits worth of slightly less intense bitter frustration).

I am also stupid enough to believe that the problem has simply been that a lot of people complain about it, but I haven't really seen anyone propose solutions. I decided to step up and try to get some serious discussion going. I even had a period of frustration when it seemed like not many people were willing to join in and say, "Hey, how about this:...". Now I think I'm realizing that they were just smarter than I am, and decided not to waste their time.

Eh, I shouldn't be so upset, but I can't help it. I feel like a fool for wasting my money, and I can only console myself by saying that I'll never do it again. Which is probably a lie. In a year or so when I have money again and I can afford it, I'll probably want to trans discipline and buy an artifact for my weapon so it doesn't decay and I don't get a proverbial censor.gif in my censor.gif for another 20-80 hours. I can't help it, I am truly a consumer whore.

Any reply from Admin would be great on the proposed idea: if nothing else, a reason why they CAN'T implement x or y.
